The Director arrived home feeling inexplicably excited, and Shu played with him for a while. Yun Li put the dog treats into the cabinet and suddenly realized that Jiang Shiyu hadn’t brought the dog bowl and bed.
She opened her phone to look at his profile picture, which was no longer the familiar Samoyed but a vast blue sky, pure and vibrant, as if dyed with color. In the middle was a beautifully shaped white cloud, and for some reason, Yun Li felt a tightening in her chest, an idea forming in her mind only to be scattered before it could fully take shape.
"The Director's bowl and bed weren’t brought along."
Almost as soon as she sent the message, she received a reply, as if he had been waiting for her in front of the phone screen.
"He can sleep on the sofa; whatever bowl you use is fine for him."

Yun Li didn’t say anything more and quietly ordered a dog bed and bowl online. That night, the Director slept on the sofa. Jiang Shiyu was right; the Director was indeed very well-behaved, lying down to sleep as soon as it was bedtime.
Shu couldn’t help but tease that Jiang Shiyu was truly a genius at training dogs to behave like this. During the day, when Yun Li had to go to work, Shu would play with the Director for a while. To prevent him from getting bored, Yun Li had bought many toys for him to play with when no one was home.
A person who usually stayed late at work couldn’t wait to go home once it was time. Yun Li typically finished work by six in the afternoon; if there were rehearsals, she wouldn’t get off until ten at night. Now, unless there was something particularly urgent, she would leave on time.
After packing her things and slinging her bag over her shoulder, Yun Li headed out. He Lin Cheng caught up with her and asked, "Yun Li, is something going on with you lately? The Team Leader mentioned you seem a bit different."
Yun Li smiled. "I’ve been helping someone take care of a dog. I worry it gets lonely at home by itself, so I want to get back early to keep it company."
"A dog? Aren't you afraid of dogs?"
"How do you know I’m afraid of dogs?" She realized she had never mentioned it before.
He Lin Cheng’s gaze flickered slightly. "I heard it from others."
Yun Li didn’t press further, but He Lin Cheng added, "Since I have some free time, can I come see your dog?"
Seeing that it wasn’t too late, Yun Li agreed as long as he wasn’t in a hurry to get home. He Lin Cheng drove them there; in just ten minutes, they arrived at her place.
Yun Li began to think about whether she should buy a car for convenience in commuting. When they arrived at her neighborhood, He Lin Cheng parked the car, and the two chatted and laughed as they walked upstairs.
It seemed that the Director sensed Yun Li's arrival and came to greet her at the door. As Yun Li opened the door, she saw the Director sitting obediently, watching her.
Yun Li's expression widened in surprise, but in the next moment, the Director suddenly became agitated, barking furiously at the man behind Yun Li. Startled, she instinctively stepped back, and He Lin Cheng moved in front of Yun Li, adopting a protective stance.
Seeing this situation only made the Director more furious. He bared his teeth and barked at He Lin Cheng, assuming an aggressive posture.
Yun Li's face turned pale; it was her first time witnessing the Director like this. Trembling, she reached for her phone to call Jiang Shiyu. After a long wait, he finally answered the video call.
Jiang Shiyu was wearing silver-rimmed glasses and had his work badge around his neck. His hair was neatly styled, giving him a clean and refreshing look. He had been smiling until he heard the Director's voice; his expression turned serious.
"What happened to the Director?" Jiang Shiyu asked, concerned.
"He's suddenly become agitated for some reason!" Yun Li replied anxiously. "You need to back away; I feel like he's about to pounce!"
He Lin Cheng's voice cut in, deepening Jiang Shiyu's gaze. "He Lin Cheng?"
"Think of something quick! What should we do?" Yun Li urged.
"Point your phone at the Director," He Lin Cheng said calmly.
Yun Li followed his instructions, and when the Director saw Jiang Shiyu on the screen, he jumped up, barking loudly as if to complain that his mother had brought another man home.
Yun Li's face went deathly pale; every aggressive action from the Director felt threatening to her.
"Let He Lin Cheng go," he barked again.
"What does this have to do with my senior?" Yun Li was confused.
He Lin Cheng seemed to understand something; he looked at the Director, realizing that this large creature was only barking at him because he wasn't welcome.
