Jiang Shiyu came to ask me to help him take care of a dog.
Shu Ran immediately frowned in disgust upon hearing this. Was he out of his mind? Why would he choose me of all people? It must be intentional.
He said no one else could take care of it, and the director really wanted me around, so he thought I could keep the director company.
But you’re afraid of dogs; can you really take care of it? Shu Ran was worried.
Yun Li also found herself in a dilemma because of this and suddenly had a bright idea: Why don’t you help me out too? With you around, I won’t be scared.
Alright.
Shu Ran sent a message to Cheng Zhou: "I won’t be coming back tonight; I might stay at Hao Hao’s for a few days."
Cheng Zhou was in a meeting, and with his phone on silent, he glanced at the screen when it lit up, seeing the note from Shu Ran.
He picked up his phone to read it, and his expression immediately soured.
"What?"
"Helping Hao Hao take care of a dog."
"What? Isn’t she afraid of dogs?"
Shu Ran explained: "It’s Jiang Shiyu’s dog. He’s on a business trip and left the director with Yun Li."
Cheng Zhou scoffed; it was clearly a scheme. "Aren’t those two broken up? Helping out with the dog? Yun Li really is a saint."
Shu Ran sent an awkward emoji: "We can’t just leave the director at a pet store! The environment there is terrible, and the director is an old dog. Would you feel comfortable if it were your child?"
Cheng Zhou retorted without distinction: "You two are both saints."
Shu Ran tried to soothe him: "Come on, can I stay with you?"
Cheng Zhou lightly scoffed but accepted, "Fine."
Shu Ran put down her phone and complained, "Men are really hard to please."
Yun Li laughed; she was actually quite envious of Shu Ran and Cheng Zhou's relationship. Even bickering occasionally felt like happiness. It wasn’t easy for two people in love to be together.
At eight o'clock in the evening, Yun Li and Shu Ran were eating takeout while watching a drama on a tablet placed in front of them.
The doorbell rang, signaling the arrival of the Director. Yun Li wiped her mouth and got up to open the door.
The Director was squatting at the entrance, sticking out his tongue and laughing, while Jiang Shiyu stood behind him, holding two bags of dog food and a bag of dog treats.
Is that all the Director eats? Yun Li had seen all sorts of dog food online and assumed the Director would have a similar diet. Jiang Shiyu looked much better than he had at noon, his brow slightly raised. The Director didn’t eat those things; he was easy to take care of as long as he was fed well.
The Director barked in agreement, sounding so obedient!
Yun Li reached out to take the items from Jiang Shiyu's hands, their fingers brushing against each other’s skin. Jiang Shiyu stared at her delicate hand; she was wearing a beige pajama set, her hair still styled in a fluffy bun held up by a headband, with stray hairs falling down, looking both cute and beautiful.
“Are you still using that WeChat account?”
Yun Li shook her head; she had changed from the number she used with him.
“Give me your phone.”
Yun Li frowned, looking defensive. “What for?”
He chuckled, his gaze lingering on her wary expression. “I need to supervise whether you’re taking good care of the Director.”
Yun Li was displeased at this. “If you don’t trust me, then find someone else!”
Jiang Shiyu smiled. “What I mean is that the Director needs to video call me every night; otherwise, he’ll miss me.”
He raised an eyebrow slightly. “It’s just adding a WeChat contact; what are you afraid of?”
Yun Li turned and went inside to grab her phone, placing the dog food and treats on the floor before returning to look at her phone and open WeChat. “You give me your number.”
Jiang Shiyu’s gaze deepened as Yun Li hesitated for a moment over a string of familiar numbers, but she still listened to Jiang Shiyu and typed them in.
“Alright, give me the Director!” she said coolly, reaching for the leash.
The Director was already impatient, barking at Jiang Shiyu.
Jiang Shiyu narrowed his eyes slightly, biting down on his back teeth as he ruffled the Director’s head playfully. “Be good now; don’t make your mom angry.”
Yun Li took the leash and paused at his words before quickly correcting him: “It’s sister.”
Jiang Shiyu smirked casually and said to the Director, “Did you hear that? Your mom says it’s your sister. Don’t keep asking me where your mommy went!”
Yun Li shot him an annoyed glance as she led the Director inside and slammed the door shut with a bang.
Muttering to himself, "Nonsense."
Outside the door, Jiang Shiyu let out a soft click of his tongue and rubbed his nose, nearly injuring it.
