Yun began to actively face her situation and cooperate with the treatment, while Jiang Shiyu had not appeared again. She felt that the dark place in her heart, which had been shadowed for years, was starting to brighten.
In just a month, Qi Hao would be conducting his test flight, and everyone at Feitian was extremely focused on it. They worked overtime every day until late, with Jiang Shiyu constantly shuttling between the Aerospace Research Institute and Feitian.
Old Master Shi could no longer sit still. He arranged to meet Jiang Shiyu and specially prepared a feast at home, but she did not show up. Furious, Old Master Shi calmed down only to realize he could not wait any longer; he had to go to Beijing in person to see her. Since that night eight years ago, the two of them had not met again.
Old Master Shi stormed into Feitian and entered the conference room. Everyone present turned their gazes toward him, recognizing Old Master Shi. Their expressions varied as Jiang Shiyu sat in a chair with her feet arrogantly propped up on the edge of the table. She looked over with indifferent eyes, her head tilted and her fingertips supporting her forehead. She remarked that the air in Feitian felt off today, carrying a fishy smell; it seemed she had anticipated the arrival of outsiders and had made herself unpleasant.
Old Master Shi's face darkened as he adjusted his white hat and leaned on his cane, still maintaining an air of dignity. "Everyone leave!" he commanded. Only then did Jiang Shiyu's colleagues dare to stand up and exit the room.
As soon as the door closed behind them, Old Master Shi moved a chair closer and sat down. His tense expression suddenly broke into a smile. "A Yu, it's been so many years since we last met, and you’ve become even more impressive. I’m truly happy for you and proud of you."
Jiang Shiyu did not look at him; it seemed she was startled by his sudden warmth. She lightly clicked her tongue. "Old man, you should stop smiling; it doesn’t suit you. Your skin is too loose; you’re not a young lad anymore, so just stay out of sight."
Old Master Shi’s expression instantly darkened significantly. "A Yu, I am your grandfather! Is this how you speak to your elders?"
Jiang Shiyu curled her pinky finger and scratched her ear. "Of course I know you’re my grandfather. I’m not senile; I can hear you just fine without you shouting."
Every word she spoke hit Old Master Shi’s sore spots, causing him to grip his cane tightly, his gaze sharp as he glared at her.
Shi Yi rushed in and immediately sensed the tense atmosphere. Maintaining her usual obedient demeanor, she asked, "Dad, what brings you here?"
Old Master Shi stood up as if to slap Shi Yi in order to vent his frustration on her. However, Shi Yi seemed to anticipate his movement and quickly stepped back two paces.
With his strike missing its target, Old Master Shi's face grew even darker. "Do you dare defy me?"
Shi Yi lowered her eyelids without any change in expression. "Dad, I haven’t even spoken yet; how could I defy you?"
Meanwhile, Jiang Shiyu stood up leisurely to tend to the flowers nearby.
Old Master Shi knew that beating around the bush wouldn't get him anywhere, so he got straight to the point. "Old Du's daughter has returned from studying abroad. She's unfamiliar with the country, and you two have met before. Take her out for a walk."
Jiang Shiyu seemed to find this amusing. "I've met plenty of people; am I supposed to take each one out? It's not like I have a dog that needs daily walks. I'm not a dog trainer."
Just managing to take the director around was exhausting enough. "You should find someone else," he suggested. "Ms. Shi seems quite suitable; women tend to have common topics to discuss."
Shi Yi replied coolly, "I'm an old woman; I don't have common topics with a young girl."
"Then as a smelly man, I have even less in common," he retorted.
The two of them tossed the responsibility back and forth, not only cursing Old Master Shi but also themselves in the process.
Old Master Shi, exasperated, slumped into a chair, clutching his chest as he trembled. "Are you two trying to give me a heart attack?"
"I've told you not to worry at your age," he continued. "Look at what Ms. Shi has done to you!"
Jiang Shiyu kept up her verbal assault.
Shi Yi shot him a glance, wanting to distance herself from the mess. "It's not like I rejected Miss Du; how could I be the one to upset Dad?"
A Yu chimed in, "Dad is right. Miss Du has been abroad for so long; it’s important for you to meet her. Dad is counting on you to marry into the Du family and help him gain control over Feitian."
