Jiang Shiyu ate quickly, as if he were not afraid of the heat, while Yun Li could only manage half a bowl before feeling full.
Noticing that she had put down her spoon, Jiang Shiyu asked, "Aren't you going to eat anymore?"
She nodded, saying she wasn't hungry.
As the two of them left the Wonton Shop, Yun Li suggested, "Let's head back!" After saying this, she paused for a moment.
Those words felt like a boomerang, hitting Jiang Shiyu seven years later.
He trudged ahead in silence.
Yun Li sensed that gaze still lingering on her; she chewed on the soft meat in her mouth without stopping. It wasn't until they entered the community and turned a corner that the gaze finally disappeared.
Once home and tidied up, she thought about getting some more sleep.
However, once in bed, sleep eluded her. Unable to do anything about it, she took out a small bottle from her drawer, twisted it open, poured its contents into her palm, and swallowed it directly.
It took half an hour before she finally drifted off to sleep.
When Jiang Shiyu returned home, his grandfather was already up, having finished breakfast and was reading the newspaper.
The family dog came over to him, wagging its tail happily and circling around him.
Jiang Shiyu gave the dog a token pat on the head before heading upstairs.
His grandfather asked, "Where did you sleep last night? You look so dirty."
Jiang Shiyu ruffled his hair and smoothed it back; his well-defined features made him even more handsome. "I was in a hurry to come back to see you and didn't even have time to wash up."
Jiang Zesheng scoffed lightly, "This kid is not that thoughtful."
He had no reason to be there anyway! After some banter, Jiang Shiyu went upstairs, took off his clothes, and headed into the bathroom for a shower.
That evening, he flew to Jing City for work at the Aerospace Research Institute; he had been granted two days off.
Yun Li only realized after waking up that her scarf was missing.
She hadn’t noticed it earlier and thought carefully about where she might have left it. It should be at Shu Ran's house; she decided to retrieve it next time she visited.
After the New Year, Yun Li continued to stay at home since she was on vacation and had plenty of time on her hands.
One day, she received a call from Zhao Moran, who said he was in Jiangzhou on a business trip and wanted to invite Yun Li to dinner. Yun Li pondered how to decline the invitation. Shu Ran suggested that it might be reasonable to give it a try. Yun Li agreed.
After finishing his work, Zhao Moran arranged a restaurant for their meeting. Yun Li tried hard to muster some interest but ultimately failed. Throughout the dinner, she felt somewhat distracted. Zhao Moran didn’t say much and didn’t insist on finishing the meal before driving Yun Li home.
When Yun Li opened the car door and got out, Zhao Moran followed her. She was taken aback as he said, “I’ll walk you home; it’s good for digestion.” Yun Li nodded in response.
The two walked side by side into the neighborhood. “Yun Li, can I ask you something?” he inquired, smiling lightly.
“I’ve had a few relationships before, but they fell apart because I got too busy with work,” he continued. “What about you?”
Yun Li paused for a moment, looking ahead and biting her lip. “Three relationships, but I was too busy to maintain them as well.”
Zhao Moran nodded gently. “Then I think we might be quite compatible.”
Yun Li remained silent; she wasn’t ready to discuss that aspect yet. When they reached the entrance of her building, she stopped and said, “Thank you for walking me back. I’ve arrived; you should head home early too!”
Zhao Moran glanced at the apartment building and replied, “You should get some rest. Let’s meet again when I’m back in Jing City.”
Once Yun Li entered the building and went upstairs, Zhao Moran turned to leave. The neighborhood was somewhat old, with dim lighting, and the tall, dense trees made it hard to see anyone standing in the darkness.
Jiang Shiyu stood hidden in the shadows, holding a blue checkered scarf as he watched Zhao Moran’s retreating figure. He took out his phone and said, “Help me look up this person.”
After half a month, Yun Li received the notification. She packed her things and prepared to return to Jing City.
