"Hello?" Yun answered as the call connected. "I'm out with Meng Meng."
Jiang Shiyu's voice came through, rich and magnetic. "Then just call back later."
"Okay."
"You’re not going to tell him we’re at the hospital?" Yu Meng suddenly interjected.
"Hospital? Are you sick?" Jiang Shiyu's tone shifted, becoming more serious.
"No, I just got scratched by a cat."
"You went to the Cat Cafe?" he asked.
Yu Meng chimed in, "It's the owner of the car that hit Yun last time, a woman. Her cat suddenly ran up to us." She had been listening closely from the start and, seeing Yun's intent to hide the details, blurted it out.
"Of course you need to let your boyfriend know if someone is targeting you."
"Otherwise, what's the point of having him around?"
"What happened? You got hit by a car? When did this happen?"
Yu Meng was surprised that Jiang Shiyu didn’t already know. "You didn’t tell him?"
"I'll explain later," Yun said as she hung up.
Once home, Yun entered her room and closed the door just as Jiang Shiyu's video call came through. Feeling a bit guilty, she answered. On the other side, Jiang Shiyu’s strikingly handsome face looked serious and somewhat displeased.
"Show me your hand."
Yun bit her lip and raised her hand for him to see; the white bandage concealed any visible injury.
"It's just a small scratch."
"What about the car accident?" His voice was heavier than usual, carrying an edge of coldness that made Yun instinctively comply, unable to hide anything from him.
"It was just a very minor accident; no one was hurt."
Under Jiang Shiyu's intense gaze, Yun recounted the entire incident.
It must have been an accident, she said at last.
"Don't go out for a while. I'll be there soon." His voice softened considerably, and the usual disarray in his demeanor suddenly turned serious, making him seem even more familiar.
"I understand, don't worry! I'll be at school in a couple of days."
In November, the chill had already begun to set in. The clouds seemed to fear any further incidents and had kept themselves away from the school recently.
Every day followed the same few routines, and she calculated that Jiang Shiyu should be arriving soon.
In Jiangzhou, the most bustling skyscrapers shone brilliantly in the night. Below, wide roads were filled with sports cars, their occupants smirking, while beautiful women occupied the passenger seats.
Their arrogant gazes swept over everything along the roadside.
Late-night office workers caught a glimpse of this scene with envy; they emerged from the towering buildings looking glamorous yet exhausted. The surrounding extravagant lights were blinding, and the intoxicating atmosphere made it hard to resist stopping to take it all in.
A black Koenigsegg roared past the array of sports cars, creating a stark contrast against the lavish backdrop of indulgence.
The car smoothly entered the underground garage, and with a loud thud, he closed the door behind him. With clear intent, he walked toward the exclusive elevator and pressed the button for the fifty-first floor.
Outside the president's office, the secretary was still busy. Seeing him approach leisurely, Secretary Zhao stood up to block his path. "Young Master, Manager Shi is busy. Is there something—"
Jiang Shiyu ignored her completely and walked past her, pushing open the door.
Shi Yi was engaged in an international meeting, seated at her desk with a laptop open before her. Hearing the noise, she looked up.
Jiang Shiyu approached step by step; his pace remained leisurely but carried an invisible sense of pressure. The indifference in his peach blossom eyes concealed sharp icicles that hung precariously from branches in winter.
"Pause the meeting," Shi Yi said in French.
She gently closed her laptop and focused her gaze on him.
