Yun Li and Yu Meng were at a plant shop, selecting a potted plant to give to Xu Nian, who had just moved. They often visited this shop and were quite familiar with the owner, who let them browse freely.
The shop was located at a quiet intersection, with various small potted plants lining the entrance and the adjacent yard. Yun Li had a fondness for succulents; they were easy to care for and visually appealing, with their plump shapes and diverse colors. She picked out a relatively large succulent, but Yu Meng laughed and said, "That guy Xu Nian kills everything he touches. It would be a shame to give him such a beautiful plant."
Yun Li recalled that Yu Meng had once given him a succulent, which had died within ten days. She had been scolded by Yu Meng for that. Deciding against the succulent, Yun Li thought it would be better to find something that required little care.
As she bent down to search, a black cat suddenly darted out, scratching her hand unexpectedly. She yelped and fell onto the ground, staring in fear at the black cat that was now looking back at her intently.
Yu Meng quickly rushed over to help her up. "Oh no! You got scratched! Whose cat is this?"
Hearing the commotion, the owner emerged from the makeshift building. "Whose cat is this? It’s hurt someone!"
Blood began to bead on Yun Li's hand, drawing attention. A chill ran down her spine as she noticed the cat's elongated eyes, its amber pupils glaring at her in an unsettling manner. Yun Li, already afraid of cats and dogs, felt her fear peak; she could barely move.
Just then, a black Benz pulled up, and the rear door opened. A woman inside waved at the black cat, calling it back. The cat bared its teeth at Yun Li before nimbly running back to the woman’s feet.
The woman bent down to pick up the cat and gently stroked its back. "You little rascal," she said in a soft voice that held no hint of reproach—only indulgence.
Yun Li's face paled as she recognized the woman; she was the same person who had rear-ended them previously. Their eyes met, and Yun Li noted the woman's beautiful yet indifferent peach blossom eyes as they floated over her.
"Your cat hurt someone; what do you have to say about that?" Yu Meng spoke up discontentedly.
The woman offered no apology and seemed quite composed despite the situation. "I’m sorry; I don’t know why it suddenly acted out like that. Perhaps it was uncomfortable here."
"We'll cover the expenses." After saying that, she turned and got into the car.
The condescending attitude made Yu Meng roll her eyes in frustration. She muttered an apology, but her tone was anything but humble, merely going through the motions. Yu Meng shouted angrily, "Is being rich that impressive?"
Another woman in the car got out and asked, "Do you want me to accompany you to the hospital or just transfer the money?"
Yu Meng felt like cursing, but Yun Li stopped her. "No need."
The woman got back into the car without hesitation, and in the next moment, the vehicle drove away.
"Yun Li just let them go like that? Isn't that just bullying you because you're nice?"
Yun Li shook her head, watching the car disappear. "It's fine; it's just a minor injury. A rabies vaccine and some bandaging will do."
Still, I can't shake the feeling that she is deliberately targeting me.
"Do you know her?"
Yun Li shook her head. "Last time I went shopping with my roommate, we were rear-ended by her car. She was wearing sunglasses and looking our way, but I didn't think much of it then. Now it seems more complicated."
Yu Meng frowned. "Should we report it to the police?"
"The police won't take action; this is just my guess."
"Let's hurry to the hospital. What if her cat is sick? We can deal with everything else later. Just don't go out alone for now. If anything happens, call me or bring Xu Nian and Qing Yu along for safety."
After getting the injection, the nurse wrapped up the wound and gave some instructions on what to watch out for.
Yun Li seemed distracted as she blankly nodded and walked out of the hospital with Yu Meng.
Just then, her phone rang.
