Yun Li, Qin Nianchu, and Chen Jin Xiu went out shopping together. While they were browsing, Yun Li thought about buying some gifts to present as if they were from Jiang Shiyu, hoping to leave a good impression on her parents. She picked up some tea for her father and some bird's nest for her mother.
Qin Nianchu noticed that Yun Li was carrying several bags that clearly weren’t for her own use. "Are you preparing these for Jiang Shiyu?" she asked.
Yun Li nodded, "I wanted to get everything ready in advance to avoid any last-minute chaos."
"How thoughtful! Our Li Li is really making things happen," Qin Nianchu exclaimed. "By the way, have you told him about your crush?"
Yun Li glanced at a couple holding hands in the distance and smiled softly. "There's no need to tell him. As you said, I’ve already made my wishes come true. Whether I say it or not doesn’t change anything."
Qin Nianchu disagreed, "If I were you, I would tell him. It might make him feel pity and guilt, and he’d love you even more."
"I can’t bring myself to do that. I don’t want him to worry."
Chen Jin Xiu chimed in, "Li Li, you're too deep into this. But being overly caring for a man can backfire. The more you give without reservation, the less he’ll cherish it. If he thinks he has you figured out, he might suddenly lose interest." She shrugged as if she understood this all too well.
"You’re right about that," Chen Jin Xiu agreed.
Yun Li gazed at the black escalator diagonally across from them as it moved smoothly upward, its dark surface reflecting the light. She simply smiled gently; she believed in Jiang Shiyu.
On their way back, while the three were happily chatting in the car, a sudden crash echoed from behind them, causing them to lurch forward instinctively. The screech of tires filled the air as they were thrown slightly off balance before settling back into their seats. Their hearts raced as they tried to regain composure.
The driver got out, cursing under his breath upon seeing a sleek black Benz that looked expensive—worth tens of thousands. A woman in a suit emerged from the vehicle and confronted the driver without any hesitation: "We take full responsibility. Do you prefer to settle this privately or go through insurance?"
The driver assessed the damage to his car; there was only a small dent in the rear bumper—not too serious considering his car was worth less than a hundred thousand. For him, settling privately would be a win.
He informed Yun Li and the others about the situation and suggested they call for another ride, assuring them that he wouldn’t charge them for this trip.
As they continued to argue, the three of them got out of the car to hail another one.
The rear window of a Black Benz rolled down, revealing a delicate and elegant face. She wore sunglasses and directed her gaze towards Yun Li.
Yun Li seemed to sense something and turned to look back. It felt a bit strange, but with the sunglasses on, she couldn't tell if the woman was looking at her or simply preparing to glance in her direction.
Fortunately, it was easy to catch a taxi here, and soon the three of them were back inside another car.
"This is terrifying! It's my first time experiencing a rear-end collision," Qin Nianchu exclaimed, patting her chest in shock.
"I think the owner of that car must be quite wealthy. They took full responsibility for the accident, and that woman who got out looked very capable—she resembled an efficient secretary," Chen Jin Xiu analyzed.
Qin Nianchu agreed, noting that although the woman was dressed in formal attire, it was worlds apart from the outfits typically worn by insurance salespeople; she clearly belonged to a different league altogether.
However, one would expect someone like her, a wealthy lady, to have excellent driving skills! Chen Jin Xiu pondered for a moment and concluded, "She must be new on the job—a rookie in the workplace."
Meanwhile, Yun Li's thoughts lingered on that affluent woman.
