Yun was excited to participate in the Lotus Award campus competition with everyone. She knew it would require intense practice ahead. Meanwhile, Jiang Shiyu was heading to the base for experiments, this time for two months.
On the way to the airport, Yun felt a pang of reluctance as she tightly held onto his hand. Jiang Shiyu chuckled lightly, "I'm not going away forever; your grip makes it feel like I'm leaving for good."
"Don't say such ominous things," she replied.
"Alright, I won't," he said, affectionately kissing her forehead.
Yun stole a glance at the driver in front, relieved that he was focused on driving and not paying attention to them. Upon arriving at the airport, everyone was busy checking in their luggage. Qin Nianzhe rushed over, "Let me help!" He quickly grabbed Jiang Shiyu's suitcase and headed towards the check-in counter.
There were many boys in their class, but only one or two girls. All eyes turned towards them, making Yun feel a bit shy. Her expression fell, and her eyes reddened as she struggled to hold back tears. Even though he would only be gone for two months, it felt like an eternity to her, and she found it hard to wait that long.
Jiang Shiyu smiled gently and pinched her cheek. "It'll be over before you know it."
Yun nodded and hugged him tightly, wanting to soak up his warmth and presence just a little longer. As others passed through security, she was reluctant to let go of his hand. "Remember to call me when you arrive," she urged.
"Okay, cheer up! I'll be back before you know it."
Yun sniffled, took a deep breath, and nodded. "Alright, you go ahead!"
She watched him pass through security with lingering eyes, feeling her heart ache as he disappeared from view. The tears she had been holding back began to fall uncontrollably as her eyes grew increasingly heavy with emotion.
She hurriedly wiped her tears, but the more she tried, the more they flowed. Eventually, she broke down, not understanding why she felt so sad. Perhaps it was the intensity of her infatuation that triggered her anxiety.
After passing through security, Jiang Shiyu's carefree demeanor gradually faded, replaced by a noticeable loneliness in her eyes. Qin Nianzhe came over to sneak a peek and suddenly exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, Brother Yu, your eyes are red! Your eyes are red!" His overly excited reaction resembled that of a mischievous monkey. Jiang Shiyu kicked him and snapped, "Shut up! Is your butt itching again?"
Qin Nianzhe immediately covered his rear end where she had kicked him and sheepishly replied, "No, no! My butt isn’t itching; it’s perfectly fine!" The others around them burst into laughter at the scene.
After leaving, Jiang Shiyu focused on the competition. Keeping busy meant she had no time to think about him. The happiest moments of her day were when classes ended and she could chat with him. Once the phone rang, all her worries faded away.
A month passed, and Jiang Shiyu became increasingly busy, so much so that they couldn't even find time to call each other. Yun Zheng called her one evening.
"How have you been lately?" Hao Hao asked.
Yun smiled broadly as she walked through the quiet campus at night. "Pretty good."
"Hao Hao, I need to ask you something!" Yun was caught off guard, her voice rising in curiosity.
Yun Zheng hesitated to speak, and Deng Ting shot him a look while snatching the phone from him. "Hao Hao, are you dating someone?"
On the other end, Yun Zheng let out an exasperated sigh.
Yun stopped in her tracks, her heart skipping a beat at the unexpected question.
