How did Hao Hao manage to stand up? It was quite frightening!
Shu Ye didn't understand why she was so afraid of him; it had always been this way since childhood, a fear that felt innate. However, Zhou usually spoiled her, allowing her to act recklessly in front of others. She appeared fearless, even in front of Zhou, the cold and composed killer, relying on him to back her up with a confidence that bordered on arrogance.
But only those close to her knew that the fearless Shu was most afraid of Zhou's anger. When he got angry, she would feel weak in the knees. Just like now, as Zhou took a step closer, she slipped down smoothly as if she were sliding dumplings.
Zhou was already accustomed to this; with a serious expression, he caught her and lifted her effortlessly, placing her on the sofa. Her heart skipped a beat before it began to race rapidly.
Shu stared at him in surprise as Zhou knelt before her, lifting her foot to examine the swelling around her ankle. He grabbed some medicine from the side and sprayed it on her injury, then rubbed his palm against it. The pain jolted Shu back to reality, and she let out a hiss.
After a long silence, Zhou's voice came out cold and deep, carrying an unapproachable tone as he suppressed his emotions.
Shu looked at his dark hair and pouted defiantly. No matter how fierce or cold he was, he still knelt down to apply medicine for her.
In truth, she wasn't particularly fond of playing with male models; she just wanted this composed Zhou to bow his head for her. She didn't know why she enjoyed watching him lose his cool and show anger behind that calm and aloof facade.
This feeling was like falling through the air; the thrill sent waves of excitement through her.
The first time she realized how to provoke Zhou was after their college entrance exams when they were about to go abroad together. She had encountered one of the girls from his class at the entrance of the Zhou Family's home, crying on his chest and pleading with him not to go abroad and not to leave her behind.
At that moment, Shu didn't look at Zhou's reaction; her gaze lingered on the girl and their interaction. She didn’t know why she stood there in a daze for so long—long enough for the girl to cry and run away.
She remained frozen in place, feeling an icy pang in her heart that left her confused about why she felt this way.
Yet this feeling lingered with her throughout the night, leaving her in a state of confusion and frustration. She immediately grabbed Yun and Yu Meng to accompany her on a reckless escapade.
Unintentionally, she learned that the bar had male models, and the thought of them embracing each other ignited a rush of blood to her head. In a moment of impulsiveness, she invited four of them over. Surrounded by two incredibly handsome models flaunting their perfect physiques, her anxiety dissipated considerably.
However, this scene did not go unnoticed by Zhou, who came looking for her. His usually indifferent and cold face cracked with anger, his dark, narrow eyes glinting dangerously as if he were ready to kill. He stormed over and shoved the man who had his arm around Shu's shoulders.
The intensity of his rage was terrifying, leaving Shu momentarily frozen. She wanted to intervene but found herself caught under Zhou's penetrating gaze. In that dazed moment, the man who had once seemed untouchable was dragged down from his pedestal into the mire, and even if he managed to rise again, the stains would remain.
Eventually, she found a sense of existence and control in this chaotic game. Sometimes she wondered if there was something wrong with her—what benefit did this behavior bring? She concluded that the only advantage was the thrill of seeing Zhou tear off that mask of composure.
After applying some ointment, Zhou put it away and poured himself a glass of water. He couldn't even muster the words to scold her anymore; it felt like he was merely opposing him.
Shu watched as his attractive Adam's apple bobbed with each swallow, biting her lip as a flutter of excitement coursed through her. This wasn't the first time she felt such an impulse toward Zhou. The first time it happened, she felt regret and disdain for herself, but later she began to accept that he was indeed captivating.
Countless girls wanted to be close to him. The dim light in the room illuminated both of them as Shu moved to dim the lights further. It wasn't so bright anymore; the darkness mirrored the hidden thoughts in her heart—shadowy and shameful.
Zhou finished his water and turned to see the girl standing right in front of him.
