Yun Li agreed.
After finishing her meal, Yun Li tidied up a bit and put on some light makeup. Jiang Shiyu insisted on seeing her off, so Yun Li had no choice but to agree.
In less than ten minutes, they arrived at the mall, where Yun Li waited for Qin Nianchu. She had taken the subway from school and left an hour early, so she should be arriving soon.
Yun Li ordered two cups of fruit tea at the milk tea shop and sat down to wait for her.
About ten minutes later, Qin Nianchu got off the subway and arrived at the milk tea shop where Yun Li was waiting.
"Li Li, you must have been waiting anxiously?"
Yun Li looked up from her phone to see Qin Nianchu sitting across from her.
"Not at all. I got you some fruit tea."
Qin Nianchu took a sip and said, "This mango sago is pretty good; they put in a lot of ingredients."
After swallowing, she looked at Yun Li with a teasing glint in her eyes. "Li Li, what happened last night after you went back?"
Yun Li maintained her composure, showing no signs of unease. Her eyes were clear as she replied, "Nothing! I just went to sleep after getting home."
Qin Nianchu bit on her straw with a skeptical expression. It was inevitable that something would happen when a man and a woman were alone together after drinking.
"Jiang Shiyu really isn't reliable!" Qin Nianchu said deliberately while sneaking a glance at Yun Li's expression. "Last time you went out together and nothing happened was fine, but this time you got drunk and missed such a good opportunity. I strongly suspect either you have a problem or he does."
Yun Li didn't expect Qin Nianchu to think like that. Instinctively, she defended him. "Nianchu, you're overthinking it. What kind of problem could we have? When did you become so indecent?"
Qin Nianchu giggled behind her hand. "I heard Shu say that she saw couples in America; it's much more open there. I think Shu has a point—if a man doesn't have any thoughts about a girl he likes, that's a big problem."
The issue isn't just minor.
Upon hearing this, Yun Li felt her heart sink. She wasn't yearning for that kind of relationship; on the contrary, she considered herself quite conservative and thought such matters should be considered later.
However, they did have a point; it shouldn't be rushed, but that didn't mean one couldn't have those thoughts.
When it comes to love, such thoughts naturally arise.
If there weren't any feelings like that, it would mean she held no attraction for him at all—or worse...
Yun Li recalled a news story she had seen before about a man who often cheated outside and was extremely cold towards his wife when he returned home. In the end, it turned out he had someone else outside.
Qin Nianchu noticed Yun Li's downcast expression and vacant gaze, and her heart sank. Could it be that her guess was right? Was there really something wrong with Jiang Shiyu? That couldn't be! He seemed perfectly fine.
Taking out her phone, Qin Nianchu seized the moment while Yun Li was lost in thought to inform Shu about the situation. The two of them had bought quite a few clothes at the mall, and although Yun Li's mood wasn't great, she still bought everything she liked. In contrast, Qin Nianchu, who loved shopping, hadn't purchased much at all. Now, they sat in a café with bags full of items.
Yun Li ordered a slice of Tiramisu, hoping that a little sweetness would lift her spirits. Qin Nianchu, however, dared not indulge; after returning to school, she had weighed herself for the first time and found she had gained three pounds. She was fined for it and had to endure some harsh words as well.
Sipping her American coffee, she noticed the lingering sadness in Yun Li's eyes and decided to offer some comfort. "Actually, Li Li, I don't think this means Jiang Shiyu doesn't love you. It might just be his way of respecting you."
Yun Li looked up with wide eyes. "Really?"
Qin Nianchu nodded vigorously. "Yes! They say that when you love someone, you want to protect them. Jiang Shiyu may seem carefree and reckless, but he is very serious and meticulous when it comes to you. We can all see how much he cherishes you."
Yun Li's expression brightened at this perspective. It made sense; besides, he always reacted whenever they kissed. Thinking about it made her cheeks flush.
It seemed she had been overthinking things. She couldn't help but sigh; perhaps she just didn't have enough experience in love to see things clearly.
Seeing that Yun Li had been easily reassured by her words made Qin Nianchu worry a bit about the girl being deceived. Jiang Shiyu was such a cunning old fox; if his flirtatious nature flared up again, how could Li Li possibly stand against him? Poor Li Li.
