Jiang Shiyu washed a blueberry and fed it to her before eating one himself.
Yun shook her head, declining the offer.
Jiang Shiyu smiled lazily, "Is the little mouse already full?"
Yun pouted, "You're the little mouse. I'm the big mouse."
Yun laughed, watching him as he worked. He sliced clean strawberries into halves and sautéed them with sugar until they released a red juice, setting it aside for later.
He took out some heavy cream and began whipping it with a whisk, adding sugar as he went. Seeing him so calm and collected gave Yun the illusion that he had been a pastry chef for many years. His long fingers gripped the whisk with such seriousness that it resembled a beautiful painting.
It was Yun's first time witnessing cream being whipped, and she clapped excitedly when it quickly transformed into a texture similar to ice cream. "Amazing!"
Jiang Shiyu filled a piping bag with the whipped cream and placed it in the refrigerator to chill. Next came the cake batter.
"How about a red velvet cake?" he asked.
Yun nodded enthusiastically, "Yes!"
He poured the cake batter into a six-inch mold and placed it in the preheated oven to bake for an hour.
Yun watched eagerly from the side, wondering when they would be able to eat.
"It'll take an hour and a half," Jiang Shiyu glanced at his watch, noting that it was already past six o'clock. "Just after dinner."
"Then I'll eat less later to save room for cake," Yun replied.
Jiang Shiyu reached out and pinched her cheek playfully.
Yun smiled back, "It's a shame you don't work as a chef; your skills are unmatched."
Jiang Shiyu fed her another blueberry, saying, "But I’m already a chef, aren’t I?"
Yun ate a blueberry, and Jiang Shiyu leaned in to kiss her lips, drawing the unbitten blueberry in with his tongue. Their lips brushed against each other as Yun leaned back slightly against the edge of the counter.
After a gentle kiss, he pulled away and softly said, "Exclusive."
After finishing their meal, Jiang Shiyu cut the cake layers, piping a ring of cream on top before spreading the pre-cooked Strawberry Jam in the center and covering it with more cream. He continued layering the cream on top and affixed slices of strawberries around the edges. Finally, he arranged strawberries and blueberries on top.
Yun watched from the side, taking out her phone to snap a picture. His hands looked strong and defined as he held the knife, and his presence alongside the cake only enhanced its appeal.
Yun took a bite with a spoon and found it just as good as what was sold outside. "Jiang Shiyu, you did great; you succeeded on your first try."
With a bit of cream on the corner of his mouth, Jiang Shiyu's deep-set eyes sparkled as he wiped it away with his fingertip, tasting it before commenting, "It’s definitely edible."
"Why did you eat from the corner of my mouth? That's not very hygienic."
"Really? I think it looks quite appetizing and clean," Jiang Shiyu replied with a playful smile, sounding rather cheeky.
"Such a flirt," Yun shot him an annoyed glance before quietly continuing to eat her cake.
After two pieces, she felt she couldn't eat any more, while Jiang Shiyu also stopped after just one piece, feeling full. They both drank some water afterward.
His voice was slightly hoarse from sweetness as he remarked, "There might be too much sugar."
"I don't think so. I thought it was just right. If you don't like cake much, of course, you'll find it sweet."
Jiang Shiyu took another sip of water. "I'll take you out to have some fun tomorrow night."
"Tomorrow night? Where to?"
"A gathering with some friends; I want to bring you along."
"Qin Nianzhe and his sister will be there too?"
Knowing that Qin Nianchu would be there eased Yun's worries; having someone to talk to would help alleviate any awkwardness.
Once Yun finished digesting her food, she went to Wu Fang for her evening practice. Jiang Shiyu had completed his assignments and lay down on the mat beside her to keep her company.
