Yun Li settled into his Cullinan and fastened his seatbelt. "Why are you up so early?"
"I brought you breakfast," Jiang Shiyu replied, handing her a paper bag filled with custard buns. "And this is hot soy milk."
She glanced at the small thermos placed next to the water cup.
Yun Li took a bite and asked, "Where did you buy this? Hao Hao made it?"
"Nothing out there compares to my skills," Jiang Shiyu said with a hint of pride.
Yun Li was taken aback, not expecting it to be his handiwork. She then inquired about the unusual behavior of Qin Nianchu and Chen Jin Xiu. "Have you bribed them?"
Jiang Shiyu held the steering wheel with one hand, a casual smile playing on her lips. "Bribery is not quite the right term. Yuan Ye got them each a card."
"What kind of place is this?" Yun Li murmured, pondering.
Jiang Shiyu glanced at her briefly, maintaining her relaxed tone. "It's the most expensive nightclub in Jing City, with male models and female companions of all kinds."
Yun Li's eyes widened slowly. "Wait, a nightclub? What are they doing there?"
Jiang Shiyu chuckled softly. "Hao Hao, it seems you don't know your roommates very well."
Yun Li pulled out her phone and began bombarding their group chat with messages. At that moment, those who were seriously practicing had no time to check their phones, but one unbothered person replied.
Nian Nian Dao Dao: [Baby, forgive us; his allure is just too strong.]
Nian Nian Dao Dao: [I've missed Yuan Ye's male models for so long; please let us off the hook!]
Yun Li responded: [??? You’ve been there before?]
Nian Nian Dao Dao: [I had the fortune of being with Young Master Jiang once.]
Qin Nianchu quickly realized her mistake and tried to retract her message as soon as she could.
Yun Li had already seen it, her eyes dimming slightly as she put her phone away without looking again.
The phone kept buzzing incessantly, as if it were about to explode. Yun Li turned her head to look at the retreating greenery outside.
Jiang Shiyu noticed the persistent sounds coming from her phone and glanced over. He saw her looking somewhat downcast as she stared outside. She had her hair tied up in a bun, wearing a light purple cotton jacket and loose white pants. Her long neck was partially obscured by the collar of her jacket.
Seeing that Yun Li didn’t respond, she sent a message to Jiang Shiyu’s phone instead. He silenced his phone and didn’t check it while driving.
As they pulled into the parking lot and parked, Yun Li unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. Jiang Shiyu followed suit, putting his phone away in his bag without looking at it.
Yun Li stood in front of the elevator, waiting for it to arrive. Without saying a word, Jiang Shiyu casually draped his arm over her shoulder as he usually did. However, Yun Li didn’t lean against him like before; instead, she moved his hand away and stood a little further from him.
When the elevator arrived, Yun Li stepped in first. Only then did Jiang Shiyu take a glance at his phone, where several messages from Qin Nianchu appeared on the screen. Curiously, he opened them to see what had happened.
“Grandpa Jiang, I accidentally said something I shouldn’t have just now.”
“I didn’t mean it; if Li Li is upset, you can just comfort her.”
“Please don’t take my card away; if Li Li is still angry when she comes back, I can help you make it up to her.”
“I’ll say nice things about you too.”
“...”
Jiang Shiyu furrowed his brow slightly. “What did your careless hands say?”
Qin Nianchu didn’t mind his reprimand and continued to lower her tone: “I accidentally told her about you and Guo Yuyan.”
