Jiang Shiyu stood up, wrapping an arm around her shoulder and leading her outside.
Once they got into the taxi, the driver turned on the heater, and the scenery outside quickly flashed by in reverse.
"Where are we going?"
Before long, they arrived at the Jing Hang Da Gate. Qin Nianzhe came over to take the luggage from the trunk, tapping on the car window. Jiang Shiyu rolled it down, revealing his sharply defined face, looking quite tired.
Qin Nianzhe glanced at Yun Li beside him, who waved at him with a cheerful "Hi." Her voice was sweet and elongated.
Qin Nianzhe grinned back, "Yun Li, long time no see."
Jiang Shiyu raised an eyebrow, her lazy tone laced with annoyance. "You're practically drooling all over me."
"Come on, I came to help you with your luggage, and this is how you treat me? I'm so heartbroken."
Jiang Shiyu rolled up the window and told the driver, "Master, to Xiangyuan No. 1."
As they drove past Qin Nianzhe, he left a trail of exhaust behind him.
Upon arriving at Xiangyuan No. 1, they didn’t rush upstairs. Jiang Shiyu took out her phone to search for nearby supermarkets.
Yun Li pointed to a mall across the street. "There should be a supermarket over there."
Jiang Shiyu glanced at the mall, pocketed her phone, and ruffled Yun Li's hair. "My Hao Hao has such good taste."
Yun Li felt that the gesture was a bit strange but couldn’t pinpoint why; she decided to let it go.
They entered the supermarket on the basement level of the mall. It was quite crowded as they followed the signs to the meat section where Jiang Shiyu ordered a piece of beef.
He also picked up a crucian carp.
Yun Li tugged at his sleeve. "Are you planning to cook?"
"Yeah, what kind of soup do you want?"
Yun Li thought for a moment and turned to see the tofu section. "How about Tofu Soup? It’s light and not greasy; it won’t make us gain weight."
After gathering their ingredients, Jiang Shiyu went on to buy some daily necessities: slippers, a toothbrush, a cup, and towels—all neatly placed into their shopping cart.
Turning around, he suddenly realized that the girl beside him had vanished.
Yun Li was selecting milk and yogurt, holding several bags of milk in one hand while picking up a box of yogurt, caught between the flavors of yogurt and red dates.
A pair of long hands reached over her side to grab a box of red dates, and a familiar voice said, "If you can't decide, just get both."
Turning to look at him, Yun Li replied, "I'm afraid I won't finish them and they'll go to waste."
Jiang Shiyu glanced at what she was holding and smiled lightly. "You can't finish this little bit? Do you have a bird's stomach?"
With a teasing tone, Yun Li pouted slightly and shot him a playful glare. "It's just for today. You won't be home during the day, and if no one drinks it, it'll expire quickly."
Jiang Shiyu pushed everything she was holding into the shopping cart. "Why not tomorrow?"
"Because I have class tomorrow!"
"I meant tonight."
Yun Li paused for a moment. "Who’s coming over tonight?"
She turned around, lowering her head with the corners of her mouth slightly lifting. "Don't be so inappropriate all the time."
Jiang Shiyu leisurely followed behind her, his voice casual. "I meant coming over for dinner. What were you thinking?"
Upon hearing this, a wave of embarrassment surged through Yun Li's mind. She turned around with wide, round eyes and said defiantly, "I’m not going!"
The little girl was throwing a tantrum. Jiang Shiyu reached out with his long arm, pulling her close to him. "Are you sure you won’t come? I won’t have anywhere to show off my cooking skills."
Yun Li let out a light humph in response.
"How come you're so good at cooking? You don’t seem like someone who would know how to cook."
Jiang Shiyu lowered his gaze, his voice indifferent yet laced with a hint of laziness. "When I was young, no one cooked for me, so I had to learn to do it myself."
In elementary school at the Shi Family home, there was no one around; his grandfather was busy with work and rarely visited him. He often ate out, but once he had an unpleasant experience with unclean ingredients and suffered all night without anyone noticing. Fortunately, his immune system held up, and he was fine by the next day.
From that moment on, he began buying groceries and cooking for himself. Eventually, when his grandfather learned about his situation, he brought him over to live with him. Although he hadn’t cooked in a long time, he could still whip up something delicious from any ingredient he had on hand.
