Yun recalled what Jiang Shiyu had said about him being ambitious. How could that be?
Qin Nianchu continued, "That was his former ideal. Ambition was the girl's dream." After Chi Zhi Yu had fallen into a slump for a while, he ultimately gave up on Jing Hang when it came time to fill out his college applications.
Yun's eyes were filled with shock; she hadn't expected such a story. Perhaps in two years, I won't like him anymore.
At a loss for how to comfort him, Yun could only silently accompany him.
That evening, when they lit the lanterns, the group stood in a row, and Qin Nianzhe went to light the fire. Everyone wore happy smiles, but he stood alone under a tree, watching them with a sense of detachment.
Chi Zhi Yu had left early; no one knew that he had told the Cheng Family's servant to pass on a message to them.
Later that night, Jiang Shiyu drove Yun home. He had been drinking, so he called the Cheng Family's driver. The Cheng Family had quite a few drivers who took turns going home for the New Year, and during that time, their pay was several times higher than usual.
Sitting in the back seat of the dimly lit car, Jiang Shiyu leaned against the window with one hand propping up his forehead, his brows furrowed as if he felt unwell.
Yun opened a bottle of water and offered it to him. "Drink a little!"
Jiang Shiyu took it and sipped, still feeling a bit dizzy. His hoarse voice reassured her, "I'm fine. Don't worry."
Yun Xin held back her thoughts; on the surface, she appeared calm and aloof, giving off an air of someone who was above worldly concerns. However, she actually enjoyed gossip and liked being part of the excitement. She was quite curious about Chi Zhi Yu.
"Is that Chi Zhi Yu also from Jiangzhou?" she asked.
Hearing Yun inquire about Chi Zhi Yu made Jiang Shiyu's eyes widen slightly, revealing some depth through the gap.
"No, he's from Yu City."
"Does he have someone he likes?" Yun asked cautiously.
Jiang Shiyu thought of something, his voice turning a bit cold as he asked, "What are you asking that for?"
Yun was startled by his sudden intensity and turned her head back, saying nothing.
Jiang Shiyu's eyes widened completely, and the gaze he fixed on Yun was deep and obscure. Suddenly, he grasped her hand, the veins on the back of his hand standing out as they twisted up towards his black cuff before disappearing.
Hao Hao remarked, "I would be jealous too if I were that curious about him." His tone shifted back to the casual demeanor he often wore.
Upon hearing this, Yun felt her earlier frustration dissipate. "I wasn't curious; I just thought you looked uncomfortable and wanted to chat for a bit to help ease it."
Easily shifting the topic, Jiang Shiyu pinched her nose playfully. "Not uncomfortable anymore?"
The New Year had passed, and school was about to start again. Yun and Jiang Shiyu had agreed to return to Jing City together. She had informed her father in advance about her ticket booking.
On the day they were heading to the airport, Yun Zheng insisted on sending Yun off, leaving the two no choice but to meet on the plane.
While going through security, Yun spotted Jiang Shiyu ahead of her, several people in between them. She didn’t call out to him since her parents were still behind watching.
After passing through security, Yun looked around for him. There was still quite a distance to the boarding gate, surrounded by shops and people. Pulling her suitcase along, she searched but couldn’t find that familiar figure.
The sound of footsteps and suitcase wheels approached from behind. Sensing something, she turned around and was pulled into a warm embrace filled with a familiar scent.
Yun smiled slightly, wrapping her arms around his waist. It was already March; it wasn’t cold anymore. They both wore light clothing—he was particularly sensitive to heat, dressed only in a thin cotton jacket over a black shirt.
Yun wore a turtleneck sweater and a knitted cardigan. When they hugged, they could feel each other’s bones; unlike before when they bundled up in thick clothes, making it feel like hugging a big fluffy pillow.
"Hao Hao," he said with a playful tilt of his head as he kissed her near the top of her head. The breath he exhaled brushed against Yun's ear, causing her to shrink away slightly from the ticklish sensation.
"I thought you might have left me behind."
"There's no way I'd leave my Hao Hao behind." Jiang Shiyu had a knack for turning any conversation into something that sounded like sweet nothings.
He always made Yun blush deeply; once again, she felt herself growing shy.
