After dinner, Jiang Shiyu took the director and Jiang Ci out for a walk. The director was a Samoyed that his grandfather had bought to keep him company when he was twelve and suffered from severe psychological trauma. Now seven years old, Jiang Shiyu used to call it Little Director when it was younger, but now everyone referred to it as Old Director.
Jiang Ci ran alongside Old Director, while Jiang Shiyu struggled to keep up, being pulled along by the leash. When Jiang Ci got tired, the director slowed down to a leisurely pace.
Panting, Jiang Ci looked at Jiang Shiyu and asked, "Brother, Grandpa said you’re with that sister now. Is it true?" After holding back all day, he finally mustered the courage to ask.
Jiang Shiyu lazily lifted his eyelids and replied in a soft voice, "Yeah."
Jiang Ci jumped up excitedly. "When are you bringing her home?"
Jiang Shiyu's gaze fell on him, and seeing his beaming smile, he couldn't help but pinch his cheek. "Why are you asking so many questions, little brat?"
Rubbing his face where he had been pinched, Jiang Ci protested with a pout, "I’m not a little brat! I’m a man now!"
Jiang Shiyu let out a light scoff and raised an eyebrow lazily. "Jiao Jiao Ci, do you even know what it means to be a man? A man is someone who protects the most important people around him. Can you do that?"
With a serious nod, Jiang Ci replied earnestly, "I can! I’ll ask Mom to sign me up for Taekwondo later. A lot of my classmates are learning it; I want to learn too." He swung his arms in the air dramatically but tripped and fell the next second.
Jiang Shiyu closed his eyes in exasperation, bracing himself for the inevitable wailing that followed—loud and piercing.
Old Director came over to nuzzle him. Jiang Shiyu picked him up by his clothes and said firmly, "No crying! Hold it together."
With tears welling in his eyes and an injured expression on his face, Jiang Ci showed him a small scratch on his hand. "Brother, it hurts."
Jiang Shiyu glanced at the tiny wound and couldn't help but laugh. "Jiao Jiao Ci, look at that little scratch; it'll heal in no time. Stop crying! A man doesn’t cry like you."
Jiang Ci tried to compose himself but still sniffled stubbornly. "It doesn’t hurt! I’ll just put a band-aid on it when we get home."
Reaching into his bag, Jiang Shiyu pulled out a band-aid that his aunt had given him before they left. He hadn’t expected it would actually come in handy. After applying it, Jiang Ci seemed to feel better almost instantly; he claimed he could no longer feel any pain.
He patted the Old Director's head and shouted, "Director, let's go!" Jiang Shiyu pulled him back, saying, "No running, Hao Hao, let's go." Jiang Ci, tired from running, didn’t want to walk anymore, so in the end, Jiang Shiyu carried him back.
After taking a shower, Jiang Shiyu took out his phone to video call Yun Li. Yun Li hid in her room to answer the call. Looking at the room's decor, it was clear she was at her own home.
"Back home?" Jiang Shiyu asked. Yun Li nodded, "Yeah, I came back after dinner."
"I'm going to release Yan Zhuang with Ran Ran and the others tomorrow. Do you want to join?" Jiang Shiyu inquired.
Yun Li nodded in agreement. "Sure! Should I invite the others?"
Yun Li shook her head. "The more people for releasing Yan Zhuang, the more fun it will be."
After finishing the call with Yun Li, Jiang Shiyu dialed another number. "Let’s go out to play tomorrow night," he stated directly, as if it were a notification rather than a discussion.
As expected, the other side declined. Jiang Shiyu shrugged it off. "Don’t make me come to your house to find you."
A few seconds later, the other side agreed.
The next day, several people gathered at the Zhou Family's place to release Yan Zhuang. They had a spacious venue thanks to Zheng Yuan; after releasing Yan Zhuang, everyone could dance, sing, and enjoy some drinks together.
Yun Li arrived early and set up desserts and drinks with Shu Ran and Zheng Yuan. The doorbell rang—it was Peng Qingyu and the others. They brought some items with them and handed them to Father Zhou. "Uncle and Auntie, we’re here to pay our respects."
Hao Hao happily took the invitation. "Alright, let's have some fun! Come in quickly."
As Xu Jin entered, Zheng Yuan frowned upon seeing the array of desserts. "There are so many sweets here. Don’t you have any barbecue?"
Aunt Zhang chimed in from the side, "We do have barbecue, but it will be ready a little later."
Hearing that there would be barbecue, Xu's expression brightened. "Great! Thank you, Aunt Zhang."
