Without hesitation, Yun Li discussed the plan with her parents after finishing dinner, with Shu Ran and Zhou witnessing the conversation, which made Yun Zheng and Deng Ting feel more at ease. Everyone began to gather their belongings in preparation for the trip.
They were heading to Hangzhou for three days, driving there themselves. It would take about two and a half hours to reach their destination. At the entrance of Yu Garden Community, Jiang Shiyu leaned against a black Benz, lighting a cigarette. As soon as Shu Ran poked her head out, she was hit by the smoke and instinctively cursed, "Damn it, Jiang Shiyu, why do you smoke so much? It's choking me!"
Jiang Shiyu, lazily holding the cigarette with a relaxed posture, lowered his arm and replied in a deep voice tinged with nonchalance, "I see you bouncing around just fine."
Shu Ran clenched her fists, determined to report him. She pulled back her head while Zhou sat nearby with his legs crossed, a laptop resting on his thigh. His fingers flew across the keyboard. Studying finance, Zhou was already considered somewhat of an expert in that field.
Shu Ran was studying design, aspiring to become a Wedding Dress Designer in the future. She leaned closer to Zhou's screen but couldn't make sense of the dense text and quickly pulled her head back.
Yun Li finished packing and declined her mother's offer to drive her to the gate, hurrying towards the entrance instead. She carried a small suitcase containing a change of clothes and some cosmetics.
From a distance, Jiang Shiyu noticed her coming out and stubbed out his cigarette before tossing it into a trash bin. He took her suitcase from her. "I'll carry it."
Yun Li handed him the suitcase while Shu Ran poked her head out of the car window with Zhou sitting beside her. Yun Li bent down to discuss with them, "Zhou, can we switch seats? I want to sit next to Shu Ran."
Jiang Shiyu, who was at the trunk putting away the luggage, heard this and his deep-set eyes darkened slightly. Zhou said nothing as he closed his laptop and opened the car door to get out.
Yun Li smiled as Shu Ran happily opened the car door for her to get in. As soon as Zhou stepped out of the car, he noticed someone looking quite displeased at him. He shrugged his shoulders, indicating it wasn't his intention.
The car moved slowly, and Yun Li and Shu Ran chatted away, filling the warm interior with their laughter. As they got onto the elevated highway, the speed picked up, and the sound of rushing wind filled the air.
Shu Ran took out her phone to show Yun Li the travel guide she had prepared. "I've booked the hotel we'll be staying at for the next few days. For our first meal tonight, we're having West Lake Vinegar Fish, and then we can go to McDonald's."
"McDonald's is too unhealthy. How about Spicy Hot Pot?" Yun Li suggested.
"Sure, let me look up the best Spicy Hot Pot places in Hangzhou," Shu Ran replied.
She found a nationwide chain of Spicy Hot Pot restaurants on the delivery app. "I wonder if Hangzhou is really the so-called culinary desert," she said while scrolling through her phone. "Let me see what other delicious food we can find."
The two girls in the back had grown tired of playing and started to doze off. Yun Li closed her eyes and drifted into a daze, while Shu Ran yawned and listened to music as she fell asleep.
Just as Yun Li was about to doze off, Jiang Shiyu's low voice came from the front, "We're almost in Hangzhou. Send me the hotel address."
Shu Ran rubbed her sleepy eyes and took out her phone to send him the address. Jiang Shiyu adjusted his navigation with his phone.
As they entered Hangzhou, Yun Li and Shu Ran perked up again. Half an hour later, they arrived at Hang Rui Hotel. The Front Desk Attendant greeted them with a smile, dressed in a neat uniform.
Shu Ran rushed to the front desk and took out her ID. "I made an online reservation under the name Shu Ran."
"Please hold on for a moment."
