Yun tugged at the corner of her mouth, forcing a smile that made Jiang Shiyu feel a heaviness in his heart.
At the dining table, the four of them sat facing each other in a restaurant that was enveloped in silence, the only sounds being the clinking of bowls and chopsticks.
Shu Ran held up her phone for Yun to see. "What do you think of this, Hao Hao?"
Shu Ran nodded, "This place is good too; it's close to Jiangzhou, just a drive away."
Jiang Shiyu and Zhou were puzzled about what the two were discussing.
Shu Ran turned to them, "Let's go to Hangzhou!"
"Why suddenly want to go to Hangzhou?" Zhou asked, eating slowly and methodically, savoring each bite without any change in expression.
Shu Ran slurped her soup loudly, creating quite a contrast between them. "Ran Ran and I decided together; it’s just right to go out and have fun before the New Year. After the New Year, you guys will be heading to America, and there won’t be any chance left."
Seeing Yun’s suggestion, Jiang Shiyu put down his bowl and began serving her vegetables. "Alright then, let’s go to Hangzhou."
Zhou poured cold water on their enthusiasm. "I heard Hangzhou is a culinary desert. Are you sure you want to go there?"
"Isn't there anything else fun in Hangzhou?" Shu Ran retorted before starting to sing, "At Qingcheng Mountain under Su Zhen, you can see Leifeng Pagoda; maybe we can even see Su Zhen."
Zhou and Jiang Shiyu snickered while Yun bit her lip, trying not to laugh. "Ran Ran, we might see Leifeng Pagoda, but who knows about Su Zhen."
"Well, we can definitely see the beautiful scenery of West Lake in March!" Shu Ran sang again. Jiang Shiyu couldn’t hold back his laughter this time; he had just managed to contain himself a moment ago but now burst into several chuckles.
It wasn’t that Shu Ran was funny; it was just that she sang off-key, which made it quite amusing.
Shu Ran shot him an annoyed glare, but Jiang Shiyu lazily raised his eyelids, unfazed by her angry stare.
With a pitiful look, Shu Ran clung to Yun's arm and spoke in a sweet tone that resembled a little girl’s pout: "Hao Hao, look at him!"
Yun gently patted Shu Ran's hand and then turned to Jiang Shiyu. "You should give her some face."
Jiang Shiyu was peeling shrimp with a relaxed posture and raised an eyebrow in response.
Seeing that Yun had easily resolved the situation for him, Shu Ran grew bolder.
In the past, she wouldn’t dare to challenge Jiang Shiyu like this; now she felt empowered.
"Hao Hao," she continued, "let me tell you about this time in high school when I accidentally knocked a book off his desk. Guess what happened next?"
Jiang Shiyu had a bad feeling creeping up on him; he couldn’t recall that incident clearly, but he knew she was up to no good bringing it up now.
Yun listened, intrigued by Jiang Shiyu's situation. What had happened to him?
Shu Ran dragged out his words, looking as if he had been bullied, accusing me of being blind. Although Jiang Shiyu couldn't recall the details, he would never speak to someone like that. It was clearly a minor issue, and she was just slandering me.
"Don't just say whatever comes to your mind. When have I ever said such things?" Jiang Shiyu's face darkened, his expression ominous.
She was tarnishing my image in Hao Hao's eyes.
Shu Ran, frightened, hid behind Yun and stubbornly insisted, "But he did! Zhou can vouch for me!"
Shu Ran shot Zhou a pleading look, hoping for his support. Zhou remained calm, sipping his soup without even lifting his gaze, clearly having forgotten the incident.
"Damn it!" Shu Ran couldn't help but curse under his breath. At that moment, Zhou raised an eyebrow, a dangerous glint in his eyes. Shu Ran quickly covered his mouth in fear.
Yun chuckled from the side. "Alright, alright. He won't talk to you like that anymore. Don't hold it against him."
Feeling protected, Shu Ran happily hummed a tune and resumed drinking his soup.
Jiang Shiyu was already fed up; suppressing his anger, he dropped his chopsticks and leaned back to check his phone.
Shu Ran dared not provoke him further and whispered to Hao Hao, "His temper is so bad."
Yun laughed softly; she knew Shu Ran was doing it on purpose. He had often spoken ill of Jiang Shiyu in the past, and now it seemed like old grudges were being settled all at once.
