As soon as they got in the car, the tension in Jiang Shiyu's expression had already faded away. He leaned down and gently touched Yun's cheek with his fingertips, noticing how hot her face was.
Yun turned her head away, her voice muffled. "Maybe the cinema was too warm."
Seeing that she seemed troubled, Jiang Shiyu paused for a moment before turning her face back to look at him. "Hao Hao, she really was my ex-girlfriend."
Yun's eyes immediately filled with tears; hearing it from his lips was too painful.
Noticing her expression turn blank and her eyes redden with a mix of stubbornness and grievance, Jiang Shiyu's voice softened as he leaned in to kiss her forehead. "I'm sorry, I was wrong."
Yun's eyelashes fluttered in surprise.
He was not someone who easily admitted defeat; he had always been proud, unruly, carefree, and the type to resort to a fight if he felt wronged.
Yet here he was, softening for her.
And it was about something that had already passed.
Yun felt a complex mix of emotions inside her, realizing that her love for him had deepened.
The mist in her eyes cleared, and her bright almond-shaped eyes stared at him in a daze.
Seeing that she had managed to control her emotions, Jiang Shiyu continued, "It was already over before; now it's even less of an issue."
Yun nodded. "I know."
Jiang Shiyu's usual playful Peach Blossom Eyes were now filled with seriousness. "You still care about it deep down; I can tell."
He paused for a moment before slowly adding, "If I were to meet your ex, I would feel jealous."
"I understand," Yun replied, widening her eyes as she hurriedly explained, "I don't have any exes."
Jiang Shiyu hadn't expected this reaction from Yun; it was clear she was experiencing love for the first time.
Thinking about this made Jiang Shiyu feel even worse.
He cupped the back of Yun's head and pulled her into his embrace.
His voice was deep and resonant, carrying a metallic timbre. "Yeah, I know. Hao Hao, I actually wish you had one or two exes so that I wouldn’t feel like I owe you so much."
Yun leaned against him, her nostrils filled with his scent—minty, without a trace of smoke. She remained dazed in his embrace, her heart filled with an indescribable feeling; love often felt like a debt unfulfilled. It was real after all.
Yun wrapped her arms around his broad back. "Jiang Shiyu, I’m not jealous. I won’t hold the past against you. I was just a bit sad earlier, but I’m fine now."
She pulled away from his arms and asked softly, "Can I ask you a question?"
Jiang Shiyu brushed his fingertips against her cheek, his voice low and gentle. "Yes, go ahead."
Yun bit her lip and blinked. "Why did you and her make such a scene back then?"
Jiang Shiyu’s gaze turned playful, his tone teasing as he replied, "How do you know I had a fuss with her before? You’re not secretly in love with me, are you?"
Yun hadn’t expected him to catch that slip and feigned anger. "No! If you don’t want to talk about it, then forget it."
She straightened up, avoiding his gaze, feeling her cheeks grow warmer; she must look like a monkey’s bottom right now.
Jiang Shiyu smiled lazily, saying, "I think I want to tell you." He dragged out the words in a low voice that sounded almost like a pout, sending shivers down her spine.
He leaned his head on Yun's shoulder, his breath warm against her skin, making her ear tingle.
"Promise you won’t laugh at me."
Yun nodded seriously, ready to listen to what he had to say next.
Jiang Shiyu continued to lean on her shoulder, his voice lazy as he recounted, "She wanted to hold my hand, but I rejected her. Then suddenly she started yelling at me; I still remember it clearly."
He lifted his head, and in his peach blossom eyes was only Yun. "She said it was embarrassing that after two months together we hadn’t even held hands."
Yun bit her lip to suppress a laugh. The way the girl had tried to hold back her laughter made Jiang Shiyu click his tongue playfully before leaning in to kiss her cheek and then her lips.
His voice carried a hint of threat. "If you laugh again, you won’t be getting out of the car today."
Yun quickly surrendered. "I won’t laugh anymore; you can continue."
