Cheng Zhou's cold eyes showed no signs of abnormality; in fact, they seemed unfamiliar. Xu recalled that Jiang Shiyu had responded similarly back then—unfamiliar. Yet, despite this lack of familiarity, he had managed to naturally ask the driver from her family to help deliver Li.
Shu Ran took off her sunglasses, revealing her beautiful eyes enhanced by colored contact lenses. The two of them were always competing, just as they had in the past, and they still enjoyed the rivalry.
A few of them took a taxi, having made a reservation at a restaurant in advance. Yun Li shared a car with the three other girls, while Jiang Shiyu and the four boys took another.
Curious, Yun Li asked in the car, "Just now, Jiang Shiyu looked a bit off. Do you know what happened since you all came out together?"
Shu Ran chimed in with a playful tone, while Cheng Zhou's sharp tongue provoked Jiang Shiyu. Afterward, Shu Ran cleared her throat and mimicked Jiang Shiyu's nonchalant attitude. "Oh, Da Hai Ge, what a coincidence!"
Then she switched roles and lowered her voice to imitate Cheng Zhou. "Hey, isn't that blind Yun Li's boyfriend? Looks like he's really hit the jackpot; his demeanor is quite different!"
Yun Li blinked in confusion. How did she end up being called blind?
Yu Meng burst into laughter without restraint.
Shu Ran laughed so hard she was gasping for breath. Meanwhile, Jiang Shiyu's expression turned dark as he gritted his teeth and retorted, "You're the blind one! My Hao Hao is definitely not cheap."
Yu Meng laughed until her stomach hurt, clutching her belly as she struggled to contain herself.
"Hao Hao," she said, "you should have seen how Jiang Shiyu was trying so hard to defend you. He was like a large dog guarding its food. It was the first time I saw him so anxious about someone; I could tell he felt differently about you compared to others."
Yun Li couldn't help but laugh as well. Cheng Zhou's sharp tongue was as fierce as ever; no wonder he looked so displeased.
Yu Meng asked curiously while wiping away tears of laughter, "Why do you call Cheng Zhou Da Hai Ge?"
Shu Ran found it amusing and explained amidst laughter that it was something Jiang Shiyu had come up with back in high school. He said Cheng Zhou had eaten too much salt and was thus 'salty enough to cause pain,' so he called him Da Hai Ge as a form of mockery.
This prompted another round of roaring laughter.
In another taxi, Jiang Shiyu sat in the passenger seat with one hand resting on his forehead against the window, feeling completely disconnected from the three people in the back.
Xu hadn't seen Cheng Zhou for quite some time and was observing his face closely, sensing that Brother Cheng's aura seemed even more powerful now.
"Brother," he asked, "what's the difference between studying abroad and here at home?"
Peng Qingyu chimed in from the side, "With Shu Ran around, there’s not much difference."
Xu Huiyi laughed unabashedly, her laughter ringing out without restraint. Jiang Shiyu, disturbed by the noise, furrowed his brows and glanced at Xu in the rearview mirror. Cheng Zhou shot him a cool glance, and feeling the pressure from both sides, Xu quickly closed her mouth.
"Alright, both of you are not to be trifled with," she thought.
Cheng Zhou turned his attention to the passenger seat where Jiang Shiyu sat. His voice was deep and steady, unlike Jiang Shiyu's erratic tone. Jiang Shiyu caught his gaze in the rearview mirror and acknowledged him with a glance.
"Are you serious about Yun Li?"
Jiang Shiyu was irritated, staring at his phone without sending a single message to Yun Li. He wondered what that girl was up to. His tone was dismissive and impatient: "Mind your own business."
Cheng Zhou remained calm and composed. "Yun Li has been well-protected by her family since childhood, and she's a good friend of Shu Ran. You can play around without anyone watching you, but if you're not serious about Yun Li, then don't do anything out of line with her. Otherwise, she might not be able to handle it, and Shu Ran won't let you off easily. You know how Shu Ran is; she won't rest until she makes you pay."
Jiang Shiyu listened, snorting coldly. "You should worry more about Shu Ran! With that loose tongue of yours, can you even handle it?"
Cheng Zhou looked out at the scenery. "Just don’t say I didn’t warn you when the time comes."
Jiang Shiyu scoffed lightly, unimpressed.
