"Come out."
Is he here?
Yun felt uncertain, but deep down, she hoped it was him. She quickly put on her jacket, grabbed her phone, and headed for the door. He Lin Cheng looked at her and asked, "Yun, where are you going?"
"I'm going out, just ignore me," she replied before leaving.
Without giving He Lin Cheng a chance to respond, she stepped out of the private room. The noise of people coming and going masked her departure.
Yun opened the door and dashed toward the elevator. As it descended slowly, her heart raced along with it.
When she reached the first floor, she ran out and pushed through the hotel’s main entrance.
Looking around, she saw no one and felt a momentary sense of disappointment.
Suddenly, a low, hoarse voice called from behind her, "Over here."
Yun froze for a moment before slowly turning around. The person she hadn’t seen in a long time stood before her. Jiang Shiyu wore a black jacket over a black shirt and pants, one hand casually tucked into his pocket. His peach blossom eyes were deep and indifferent as they locked onto hers.
Yun stared at him in a daze; her unadorned face was porcelain white, with soft pink lips and almond-shaped eyes that sparkled like stars.
Jiang Shiyu swallowed hard, his voice even raspier now. "Have you eaten?"
Yun nodded and then asked, "What about you?"
"No."
"Then let me take you to eat!"
Jiang Shiyu didn’t refuse and nodded in agreement.
The two walked side by side to a clay pot rice restaurant.
Yun pointed at the restaurant and said, "I came here with Senior He before; it’s pretty good. Senior He said it’s quite authentic."
Upon hearing the name "Senior He," Jiang Shiyu's eyes darkened slightly as he replied curtly, "I’m not eating."
Yun awkwardly withdrew her hand. "Then what do you want to eat?"
Jiang Shiyu scanned the area with his eyes before stopping at a Dumpling Shop. "Let's eat dumplings!" he suggested.
They headed to the Dumpling Shop, a chain restaurant that Yun had also tried at the school gate. It was decent and not bad at all. Jiang Shiyu ordered a serving of beef dumplings and also got Yun an order of Scallion Pancakes.
They sat down facing each other, and people began to come in one after another to enjoy their dumplings. This chain restaurant was different; its decor was the same as the one at the school gate, but the environment was much better than the previous clay pot rice place. Yun thought that Jiang Shiyu must have found the clay pot rice restaurant unclean.
Jiang Shiyu glanced at her. "How was the performance?"
Yun nodded, "It was pretty good; the effect was similar to before."
After saying that, they fell into silence again. Yun still couldn't bring herself to look directly into his eyes. Every time their gazes met, she would remember that night, and she feared that her face would turn red.
The dumplings and Scallion Pancakes arrived, and there was quite a lot of food. The Scallion Pancakes were cut into pieces. Jiang Shiyu lifted his chin slightly, indicating for her to try the Scallion Pancakes.
Yun realized she wasn't full; the hotel food had been too bland. The fried Scallion Pancakes must be delicious. She picked up a few pieces and placed them in her bowl, then took a bite. The fragrant oil burst in her mouth, and the pancakes were crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside.
Her almond-shaped eyes curved happily as Jiang Shiyu watched; it seemed she genuinely liked it.
Just as they were eating, Yun's phone rang—it was Teacher Zhou.
She answered directly, "Hello! Teacher Zhou."
Teacher Zhou's voice came through the line, and Jiang Shiyu could hear it too.
"Where have you been?" Teacher Zhou asked.
Yun glanced at the boy across from her and told a little lie, "I’m just out wandering around; what’s up?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she noticed Jiang Shiyu smirk knowingly, which made her feel nervous.
Teacher Zhou didn't suspect anything and continued, "Don't think I'm meddling too much, but Xiao He is quite nice. I think you two should get to know each other better."
Jiang Shiyu listened intently to every word.
He paused while picking up a dumpling, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Yun, fearing that Jiang Shiyu had overheard him, lowered his voice a bit. "I understand, Teacher Zhou. We'll talk about it when I get back. Bye for now."
He quickly hung up the phone and nervously glanced at him, only to find that he was eating dumplings without any sign of concern.
Yun let out a quiet sigh of relief; thankfully, he hadn't heard anything. Otherwise, it would have been quite embarrassing. Who gets chased by a teacher to be tied to a red thread?
