Jiang Shiyu changed his clothes, the scent of alcohol lingering on him. Dressed in a black t-shirt and black casual pants, he sat at the bar, his mind drifting back to her image from earlier. He hadn’t intended to drink more, but now he found it hard to settle down without another drink.
He grabbed two more cans, quickly finishing one before opening another. After consuming so much, he finally began to feel the effects of the alcohol. His Peach Blossom Eyes, filled with emotion, drew anyone who glanced his way into their depths.
The living room was dark, only the light above the bar illuminating the space, casting shadows that made his handsome features appear even more defined and mysterious. The green cans piled up on the bar, empty one after another, and with each drink, his thoughts became clearer.
Jiang Shiyu wondered if he was going insane.
Yun Li was not sleeping well; her stomach ached intermittently, waking her from a restless slumber. Feeling parched, she decided to get some water without bothering Jiang Shiyu any further.
She turned on the light and reached for a cup nearby. Holding her stomach with one hand and frowning in discomfort, she carefully stepped out into the dimly lit area, where there was just enough light to see that Jiang Shiyu was still awake.
As she approached slowly, she saw him sitting at the bar, drinking alone, several empty cans scattered around him. The air was thick with the smell of alcohol. He rested his elbow on the bar, wearing only a short-sleeved shirt that revealed well-defined muscles on his arms. With the other hand, he lifted a can to his lips slowly.
His demeanor was relaxed yet detached; those indifferent Peach Blossom Eyes were glazed with drunkenness.
“Jiang Shiyu,” Yun Li called out softly.
In his hazy state, Jiang Shiyu thought he had imagined her voice. Cursing under his breath in frustration, he muttered an expletive.
Yun Li heard him and felt a tremor in her heart—had she upset him? Her eyes glistened with unshed tears as she apologized softly, “I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to disturb you.”
Hearing Yun Li’s voice again brought Jiang Shiyu back to reality; it dawned on him that this was no illusion.
He turned his head, his gaze shrouded in darkness. He stood up unsteadily, lowering his head to rub his forehead.
"Are you okay?" Yun Li asked, her concern tinged with a hint of timidity.
Jiang Shiyu relaxed slightly, his eyes downcast, his voice hoarse. "I'm sorry, I wasn't scolding you just now."
"How did you end up out here?"
Yun Li raised her cup. "I was thirsty, so I came out for some water."
Jiang Shiyu's gaze lingered on her pale lips before he forced himself to look away. "Give it to me!"
He poured her a glass of warm water, and Yun Li gulped it down eagerly. After setting the cup down, she glanced at him and then at the empty cans on the bar. Unable to hold back, she added, "Drinking too much alcohol isn't good for you."
Jiang Shiyu's expression deepened as he replied hoarsely, "Yeah."
"I'll take you home," he offered.
Yun Li wanted to refuse; after all, they were in his house, and he could decide what to do. She turned towards the master bedroom, with Jiang Shiyu following closely behind. Watching her delicate figure and weary expression stirred a pang of heartache within him.
As the light dimmed further, his gaze took on an even more dangerous edge in the shadows.
Yun Li remained unaware of this, her mind preoccupied with how to comfort him. He must still be thinking about what his father had said. Words from family can be the most hurtful.
