Yun Li zipped up her jacket, her hands tucked into her pockets. While her upper body felt fine, her lower half was starting to feel numb from the cold.
Jiang Shiyu noticed this and quickened his pace, eager to get her back. When they reached the school gate, they found it closed, and the security office was dark. There wasn't a soul in sight.
A sense of dread washed over her; had they missed curfew?
Yun Li checked her phone and confirmed it was indeed past eleven. She couldn't believe she had spent so long outside with Jiang Shiyu.
Jiang Shiyu frowned slightly, realizing he had forgotten about the curfew. "The guard must be asleep inside. I'll go wake him up," he said.
"No, wait!" Yun Li grabbed his sleeve. "If we go in now, we'll have to register, and they'll report it to the counselor tomorrow." This could affect her chances for some awards.
Jiang Shiyu felt apologetic. "I'm sorry for keeping you out so late. Let's just find a hotel."
"I didn't bring my ID," she replied.
He patted his pockets and shrugged. "Neither do I."
Yun Li's eyes widened at this revelation, and Jiang Shiyu quickly realized she misunderstood him. He chuckled lightly, "Don't get the wrong idea; if I had my ID, I could help you book a room."
Feeling shy, Yun Li bit her lip as she stared at the closed gate. Was it really going to come to sleeping on the streets?
"Follow me," Jiang Shiyu said, turning around.
Without thinking twice, Yun Li hurried after him. He hailed a cab and opened the door, raising an eyebrow to signal her to get in. Without hesitation, she climbed inside.
This girl was quite bold.
With an innocent expression, Yun Li looked at Jiang Shiyu and asked, "Do you know how to find a hotel that doesn't require an ID?"
Jiang Shiyu couldn't help but laugh, a teasing tone in his voice as he said to his master, "Master, we're going to Xiangyuan No. 1."
"Alright then."
Yun Li was confused. "Aren't we going to a hotel?"
Leaning back lazily, Jiang Shiyu crossed his arms and lifted his eyelids slightly. "You could consider it a hotel."
Yun Li felt a wave of uncertainty wash over her; she should have asked more questions. She had heard of Xiangyuan No. 1, a famous luxury penthouse in Jing City. It was a place where the wealthy lived, and she had only heard that just one square meter there could cost as much as an ordinary family might earn in a lifetime.
Sitting up straight, her back tense with nervousness, she wondered if this was really his home. Turning to look at him, she said, "Maybe we should find a hotel instead! They might let us stay."
Jiang Shiyu's voice was languid, as if he didn't care at all. "Hao Hao, do you really think a hotel would let you stay?"
Yun Li's face flushed even more; she wasn't sure if it was because of the warmth in the car or his deep, melodious voice that felt different when it came from him.
As they arrived at Xiangyuan No. 1 and got out of the car, the luxurious decor made Yun Li even more anxious. Would there be anyone at his home? It felt inappropriate to visit someone’s house so late at night.
She spoke up again, "Jiang Shiyu, it's late; going to your house isn't a good idea. I should just find a small hotel! I can pay for it."
Noticing her tension, Jiang Shiyu bent down slightly to meet her gaze. His voice softened as he reassured her, "There's no need to be afraid. You can trust me; there's no one at home."
Yun Li's heart eased a little but still felt apprehensive. She followed Jiang Shiyu closely, not daring to look around carelessly.
