Yun Li lifted her head, her eyes curving slightly. After practicing for a certain period, the pressure would eventually be released.
Jiang Shiyu was taken aback, not expecting this answer. Just a couple of days ago, he had come across videos of dance students during their art examination preparation. Each one of them was crying while attending classes, their legs and waists manipulated like they were handling dolls. Just watching it made him ache. Yet she was so passionate about it. Didn’t it hurt? Her throat felt even hoarser after drinking.
Yun Li nodded. "It hurts," she replied, glancing at him, but the pain in her heart was greater; the physical pain didn’t matter much anymore. After all these years of training, a little more pain didn’t make a difference.
Suddenly, a cold wind blew in the evening, and Yun Li shivered unpreparedly.
Seeing her hug herself tightly, Jiang Shiyu noticed her lips trembling and immediately took off his jacket to hand it to her.
"Put it on," he urged.
Yun Li quickly waved her hand. "No, I’m fine."
"Just take it," Jiang Shiyu insisted, his voice deeper than before.
Not knowing how to refuse, Yun Li accepted it and draped it over her legs. It made things a bit warmer.
There were quite a few people at the barbecue place. The two of them waited for a long time and chatted a lot during that time.
Jiang Shiyu had already drunk half a bottle of beer, lifting the cup to his lips to take another sip. The warmth from the alcohol spread through him.
"Have you been to Haicheng?" he asked.
Jiang Shiyu nodded. "Yeah, it's okay. We were a bit busy when we went, so we didn’t have much time to play around. The seaside is quite nice."
Yun Li looked at him with longing. She had heard that Haicheng was summer all year round and hardly experienced winter. "I want to experience that too," she said.
"Traveling there is a good choice," Jiang Shiyu replied.
Yun Li felt her nervousness gradually dissipate; she could sense that the distance between them was slowly closing.
Yun Li bit her lip and tentatively asked him, "Can I ask you a question?"
Jiang Shiyu took a sip of his drink, his voice hoarse. "Mm."
"Why do you seem upset?" Yun Li cautiously inquired.
Jiang Shiyu paused, holding his glass for a moment before setting it down. His Peach Blossom Eyes sparkled with mischief. "Where did you get the idea that I'm upset?"
"You came out to find me late at night and then drank alone like this. Isn't that a sign of being upset?"
It couldn't possibly be because he was chasing after someone, right? Yun Li dared not entertain such thoughts.
Jiang Shiyu would never pursue anyone; it was always others who chased after him.
He suppressed his laughter, falling silent as the depth of his eyes darkened.
Yun Li didn’t say anything further; she hadn’t expected Jiang Shiyu to confide in her. She had only brought it up hoping to offer some comfort, but when faced with him, she always found herself at a loss for words.
"Because my so-called father wants me to study abroad."
After an unknown amount of time, Yun Li suddenly heard these words and froze. It wasn't just because Jiang Shiyu was willing to share this with her; it was also the realization that he might actually go abroad to study.
Her heart raced with anxiety as she slightly parted her lips, unsure of what to say.
Jiang Shiyu merely scoffed, a hint of bitterness crossing his features as he grew cold. "He thinks he can control me? It's not that easy." With that, he took another large gulp of his drink.
Yun Li was unclear about his family situation; all she knew was that his parents had a troubled relationship. They had always let him be, so now were they planning to take control?
