Yun's face was heavily made up for the stage, her eyes cast down, long eyelashes obscuring the emotions within.
"Are you avoiding me lately?" Jiang Shiyu continued.
Yun, like a startled deer, immediately denied it. "No." She had just lifted her head to meet his gaze, but in a second, she quickly looked down again.
Her denial came too quickly, suggesting she had something to hide.
A teasing smile curled at the corners of Jiang Shiyu's lips, his eyebrows slightly raised, and his tone was lazy yet laced with mischief. "No? Then why are you afraid to look at me?"
Inside, Yun felt anger rise; it was quite inappropriate for him to linger around her when he already had a girlfriend. She struggled a bit against his tight grip on her arm but couldn't break free. Her tone carried a hint of defiance as she replied, "I’m just worried about your girlfriend getting angry."
As soon as she said it, Yun regretted her words; it sounded like jealousy. Why did she say that? Suddenly, she wished she could disappear.
Jiang Shiyu paused for a moment, taken aback by her reasoning. He then released her arm, his teasing tone deepening. "Yun, you’re not secretly in love with me, are you?"
In an instant, Yun's face flushed red, her heart racing chaotically. She didn't rush to respond but focused on calming herself down.
"You’re overthinking it," she finally said. "Nianchu told me to keep my distance from you because she was bullied by your girlfriends before."
She didn’t want to be caught in the crossfire.
Last time, Qin Nianchu specifically talked to Yun and Chen Jin Xiu about this issue and shared her own experiences of being bullied to make sure her friends were more cautious.
It seemed that advice had come in handy after all.
The teasing glint in Jiang Shiyu's eyes vanished completely; he didn’t particularly like this answer. But it had to be this way.
With the pressure gone, Yun quickly took two steps back, afraid to get any closer to him. Jiang Shiyu noticed her movement and felt an urge to distance himself even further; his eyes narrowed slightly in displeasure.
Neither of them spoke again. Yun waited for him to say something; if he remained silent, she would take the initiative.
They stood there for what felt like an eternity until Yun finally turned to leave.
Suddenly, Jiang Shiyu's voice called out from behind her.
"You're fine now; there's nothing to be afraid of."
Yun's eyelashes trembled slightly at his words. For these past few days, she had intentionally pushed Jiang Shiyu out of her mind to avoid feeling hurt. When she thought about it carefully, it had already been a month.
Yun simply replied, "Mm."
After that, she showed no mercy, without a hint of hesitation, which only made Jiang Shiyu feel more frustrated. He crushed his cigarette and tossed it into the nearby trash can, deciding not to smoke anymore.
Once the performance ended, the sky outside had turned dark. Peng Qingyu and Yu Meng were both present, and the group decided to go out for dinner together. They took two taxis: Peng Qingyu, Qin Nianzhe, Zhang Yu, and Xu Jiaxing shared one car, while Jiang Shiyu rode with Yun, Yu Meng, and Chen Jin Xiu in the other.
Originally, Peng Qingyu intended to join Yun and the others, but Jiang Shiyu suggested he ride with Qin Nianzhe instead, claiming they were unfamiliar with the area. Jiang Shiyu led the few girls in their car.
Xu Jiaxing stole a glance at Jiang Shiyu and silently gave him a thumbs-up in admiration for his cleverness.
In the car, the three girls chatted non-stop while Jiang Shiyu sat in the front seat, glancing at Yun through the rearview mirror.
Yun was seated in the middle; she had removed her makeup, yet her natural beauty was still breathtaking. Her hair was down and seemed slightly longer than before, flowing smoothly around her. The weather had turned a bit chilly, so she opted for a white shirt paired with a light yellow jacket and jeans. The colors brightened her overall appearance even more.
