The high-speed train soon began to move, and Jiang Shiyu yawned, crossing his arms and closing his eyes, intending to rest for a while. Yun Li, on the other hand, took out her headphones to listen to music, occasionally stealing glances at him.
Girls usually love sitting by the window to enjoy the scenery, and Yun Li was no exception. As they entered a tunnel, she caught a glimpse of Jiang Shiyu's well-defined profile through the window—his sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, high nose bridge, and thin lips pressed together.
In the next moment, when Yun Li wanted to open her camera to capture the moment, they sped past too quickly. She felt a moment of disappointment but quickly resolved to take a picture in the next tunnel instead. Her spirits lifted as she became highly alert, unwilling to relax or let her guard down.
Jiang Shiyu shifted slightly in his seat and opened his eyes. He glanced over to see the girl sitting upright, her long neck graceful and her skin fair and smooth. Her hair cascaded softly over her shoulders. Her arms were slender with little flesh on them, their lines flowing elegantly. A delicate collarbone was visible above her exposed skin.
She seemed to favor wearing tank tops over dresses; out of the three times he had seen her, she wore a tank top twice and pants every time. This time, she was particularly energetic and focused, holding up her phone with the camera app open.
Jiang Shiyu looked outside as well; the scenery was ordinary and not particularly stunning. He didn’t understand why he paid so much attention to her; she simply looked more pleasing than others in his eyes. He had always followed his own inclinations.
In the next moment, they entered another tunnel. Yun Li quickly pressed the button on her phone to take a picture, and in that instant, she saw his face reflected in the window. Their gazes collided through the glass.
Jiang Shiyu noticed her little action; his brows relaxed with a hint of teasing as a playful smile tugged at his lips. Startled, Yun Li loosened her grip on her phone, which fell with a thud before she realized what had happened.
Flustered, she turned away and scrambled to find her phone. A light laugh filled the air beside her, carrying a sense of amusement—was Yun Li trying to sneak a photo of him?
She didn’t dare look at him, clutching her phone tightly while her headphones slipped from her ears and hung awkwardly in the crook of her arm. With her head slightly bowed and eyes downcast, she gently bit her lip in embarrassment.
It was incredibly awkward.
Her toes clenched tightly in an invisible grip, wishing she could dig a hole and hide away.
Yun Li, trying to sound tough, replied, "No. You must be mistaken."
Jiang Shiyu's smile widened, clearly enjoying teasing her. "Oh really? Then what were you just taking pictures of?"
Yun Li's mind raced as she thought of a way to cover up her lie. She quickly messaged her cousin, then turned her phone around to show him the chat page. "My cousin said she’s never seen what the tunnels in the High-speed Rail look like, so she asked me to send her a photo when I get home."
She handed over her phone but snatched it back after just two seconds, fearing her cousin might reply with a question mark. After retrieving her phone, she hurriedly retracted the message, finally letting out a quiet sigh of relief.
Jiang Shiyu hadn’t even glanced at her phone; his Peach Blossom Eyes remained fixed on her flustered face as he listened to her ramble on.
With an understanding nod, he said lazily, "Oh, I see!" His voice carried a softness that neither of them seemed to notice.
Yun Li nodded earnestly, responding with a firm "Mm," as if afraid he wouldn’t believe her otherwise.
Her heart still hadn’t settled down; she sat still, not daring to make any sudden movements for fear of another mishap like before.
When the staff brought over complimentary drinks and snacks, Yun Li couldn’t resist opening one and taking a couple of bites; it tasted quite good. She didn’t drink the provided beverage but opted for the water she had brought in a small cup—lightweight and easy to carry.
Yun Li enjoyed her snack happily, and seeing her bright eyes and cheerful expression, Jiang Shiyu casually pushed his own snacks toward her. "Aren't you going to eat?"
"I'm not hungry."
Yun Li gladly accepted his offering and then handed him her drink; they exchanged their refreshments with ease.
