Jiang Shiyu had always exuded a powerful aura of authority since childhood. He spoke little but was fiercely loyal, tackling tasks with decisiveness and never dragging his feet. The sweet treats he offered were irresistible, and often, with just a subtle lift of his eyelids and a casual smile at the corner of his mouth, everyone would jump at the chance to do his bidding. By the time they realized something was amiss, they had already been tamed.
Qin Nianzhe was one such example. The two had met during a fight in middle school, where Qin was impressed by Jiang's fierce fighting style and impressive skills. This initial encounter led to a growing bond that became hard to break.
One day, Qin approached with a pile of drinks ready to share. "Cold drinks?" Jiang asked. "I don't drink them cold."
"Come on, in this weather, what else would you drink?" Qin replied, puzzled.
Jiang simply stated, "I don’t drink."
With no choice left, Qin distributed the drinks to others and tried again. "How about mango juice?"
Jiang glanced at it and said, "I don’t like mango juice."
Qin ran off once more to swap it out. "Apple juice is fine, right?"
By then, Jiang had finished his meal. Wiping his mouth, he smirked playfully, "I don’t like that either."
Realizing this was Jiang's way of retaliating for his earlier mistake, Qin could only surrender helplessly. "Alright, alright! I admit my fault. Please don't hold it against me."
Jiang lowered his gaze to his phone just as Qin's rang. Checking it, he saw money had arrived in his account.
Immediately, Qin became overly eager. "Sir, what else would you like? I’ll buy it for you!"
Jiang didn’t press him further. "Just this will do."
With a flattering smile, Qin thoughtfully inserted a straw into the drink and handed it over with both hands.
Qin Nianchu couldn’t bear to watch this display and remarked disdainfully, "Seriously? Is it necessary? Did your pocket money run out?"
As he ate, Qin mumbled through a mouthful, "No! I’ve been saving up."
He wanted to buy a figurine that was already out of production; a friend online had one available for sale. However, he lacked sufficient funds and had been pleading with Jiang for quite some time about it. This was something he couldn’t let Nianchu find out; she would definitely tell on him.
Their family already disapproved of him buying such things—if they knew he was paying high prices for collectibles, there would be trouble.
With the heat rising and no place to go during lunch, the group decided on visiting the aquarium, which was bustling with activity at that time.
Zhang Mingyu and Xu Jiaxing were called away by their instructor and soon disappeared from sight.
They bought tickets at the window and squeezed into the crowd as they entered.
The interior space of the aquarium was quite large, and it was impossible to explore it all in less than two hours. The group planned to take their time wandering through the exhibits. Yun Li, who rarely took photos, had little skill in photography, so Qin Nianchu asked Qin Nianzhe to take pictures of her.
Qin Nianzhe had been trained by her to act like a professional photographer, and every photo he took turned out beautifully. Yun Li walked alongside Jiang Shiyu, but her interest in the various fish around them was rather low. They stood still, waiting for Qin Nianchu to finish taking her pictures.
With one hand in his pocket, Jiang Shiyu looked at her with his cold Peach Blossom Eyes and spoke in a low voice, "Aren't you going to take any pictures?"
Yun Li had just been lost in thought and didn't catch what he said at first. "What?" she finally asked, trying to regain her focus.
Seeing her dazed expression, Jiang Shiyu chuckled softly. "It seems this place isn't captivating enough for you."
Yun Li gave a faint smile as she glanced at the crowd around them, which mostly consisted of couples on dates or families with children enjoying their weekend outings. Perhaps it was just too crowded; it felt a bit stifling. Although the aquarium had air conditioning, the sheer number of people made it uncomfortable.
Jiang Shiyu looked down at her and noticed a hint of weariness in her eyes. "Come with me," he said before leading the way.
They ascended to the fifth floor, where there were fewer people and a gift shop where they could buy souvenirs. The items here were exquisitely crafted and quite different from those outside.
Yun Li's interest was piqued as she browsed through a row of shelves filled with unique designs. The craftsmanship was impressive, and she found herself mesmerized by the selection. Picking up a crystal glass dolphin sculpture, she turned to Jiang Shiyu and asked, "Which one do you think looks better?"
Standing beside her with a relaxed expression and a faint smile, Jiang Shiyu replied, "The Polar Bear."
