Yun Li's almond-shaped eyes were filled with fear as she leaned against the shoulder of a boy, the scent of smoke and alcohol mingling with mint wafting around them. The warmth radiating from his chest enveloped her.
The man on the ground grimaced in pain, cursing under his breath, "Damn it, who the hell hit me?"
Yun Li lifted her gaze, catching sight of Jiang Shiyu, whose tense profile exuded a casual yet imposing presence. His tone was brazen as he replied, "Your grandfather."
The man scrambled to his feet, realizing he was up against someone formidable. He spat out a threat, "You’ll regret this," before fleeing.
Jiang Shiyu's grip on her shoulder relaxed as he looked down at her. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"
Yun Li shook her head and murmured a thank you. The area where he had held her wrist was still red, and Jiang Shiyu noticed, his gaze deepening with concern.
"Thank goodness you showed up; that thug was too bold. He didn’t even take a moment to reflect on himself," Qin Nianchu huffed angrily.
"Next time, bring a guy along for safety," Jiang Shiyu suggested, glancing back at Yun Li. Her face still bore a hint of pallor, clearly shaken by the encounter. "Let’s go," he said softly.
Yun Li nodded, and the two girls walked ahead while Jiang Shiyu followed behind them. As they entered, the presence of two more beautiful girls drew everyone's attention toward the entrance.
Qin Nianchu was familiar with everyone there, but it was Yun Li's first time meeting them; however, someone recognized her.
Yun Li and Nianchu settled into a booth while Jiang Shiyu sat beside Yun Li, crossing his arms and closing his eyes as if he hadn’t gotten enough sleep.
"Hey, when did you get to know Yun Li from Jing Wu?" one boy shouted excitedly.
Jiang Shiyu lazily lifted his eyelids and shot back a few words: "None of your business."
The others immediately chimed in with playful banter: "Oh, looks like he's protective already."
The laughter made Yun Li feel uneasy; she had just recovered from her fright and now felt like a spectacle being mocked by the boys.
Noticing her discomfort, Nianchu stood up with her hands on her hips and scolded them: "What are you laughing at? Can’t you show some respect for Li Li since it’s her first time here?"
The boys fell silent, realizing their behavior was out of line. However, the excitement of having the most sought-after goddess in their circle present was hard to contain.
Zheng Yating scoffed derisively, her tone sharp: "If you're here to have fun, then what's with all this seriousness? Why come here if you can't take a joke?"
Yun Li turned toward the voice and realized it was Zheng Yating; she hadn’t noticed her presence earlier.
The boy next to her wrapped his arms around her waist, clearly her new boyfriend. Yun Li was not annoyed; instead, she offered a gentle smile that contrasted sharply with her usual sharp demeanor. "Who says we have to play when we come here?" she remarked. "There's nothing fun about being with you all."
Qin Nianzhe also stood up from across the room and walked over to the sofa. He opened a bottle of wine from the table and poured himself a glass, his tone impatient. "Everyone do their own thing."
The person who organized the gathering stood up to mediate, saying, "Hey, hey, let's not ruin the mood. Yun Li, don’t take it to heart! You might not realize it, but everyone usually wants to invite you out but can never manage to. We didn’t expect you to show up today; we just wanted to liven things up a bit, no harm intended."
Yun Li was the campus belle voted by many among the numerous beauties at Jing Wu. Many tried to add her on WeChat and pursue her, but hardly anyone could get her out. So when she arrived, the boys seemed a bit more excited.
Everyone present were students from various universities, all gathered here to meet new people and expand their networks for the future.
Yun Li didn’t hold a grudge and simply nodded with a smile. Seeing that she wasn’t angry anymore, the boy came over and playfully grabbed Qin Nianzhe's shoulder, saying, "Come on, let’s keep going! Are you going to drink or what? Trying to escape?"
Qin Nianzhe's face flushed slightly at the teasing and he immediately retorted, "Who’s trying to escape? Just watch your words; my sister has a bad temper. Be careful or she might crack your head open!"
Everyone burst into laughter at this. Qin Nianchu called over a waiter to order some drinks since neither of them was good at drinking alcohol.
