Unrequited love is wanting you but not daring to take a step closer; it's simply that I miss you.
"Have you arrived, Hao Hao?" The voice on the phone, tinged with the scent of alcohol, flowed through the line into Yun Li's ears.
Yun Li casually tied her long hair into a low ponytail, with wisps falling over her forehead, which was full and round. Her unadorned face bore a faint blush as she hurried along, making her way into Wasted Years.
"I'm coming right in," Yun Li's voice was soft and clear, laced with a light laughter. She wore a sky-blue coat with a plaid scarf wrapped around her neck, paired with a simple pair of wide-leg jeans, giving her an effortlessly refreshing look.
After hanging up the phone, Yun Li tucked her mobile into her bag and looked up to find the room number.
Upon opening the door, she found quite a few people already inside. The private room was filled with colorful lights and the sound of singing, creating an atmosphere that was lively and vibrant.
Shu Ran sat in a booth wearing a red spaghetti strap dress. Having spent a long time abroad, her thoughts and fashion choices were much more open than those of others. Fortunately, the air conditioning kept the room comfortable.
Most of the guests were friends of two people; this gathering was organized to welcome Yun Li back after her tour. The Dance Drama from Jing City Song and Dance Theatre had just completed its nationwide tour.
Over four months, they had traveled from summer to winter, visiting several cities. Now that there was finally some downtime, Yun Li rushed to the welcome banquet that Shu Ran had prepared right after getting off the plane.
The private room was spacious but not overly crowded; it felt lively enough without being too empty. There were two men along with Yun Li, Shu Ran, and Qin Nianchu—just five people in total.
As the two men sang together, they noticed Yun Li's arrival and one of them grabbed the microphone to say, "Yun Li, you finally made it! Hurry and talk some sense into this lady; she's already downed three bottles of foreign wine mixed with another bottle."
Qin Nianchu sat beside Shu Ran, keeping an eye on her. Shu Ran was quite bold: "No way! This little bit isn't enough to fill my gaps."
Qin Nianchu rolled his eyes in resignation; it was all just water anyway—definitely not enough to fill any gaps.
As Yun Li approached, Shu Ran immediately embraced her. "You finally made it! We've already heated up the place several times!"
Yun Li smiled and lowered her head to look at her. "Did you have another fight with Cheng Zhou?"
At the mention of his name, Shu Ran's mood soured instantly. She stubbornly retorted, "Who would argue with that sour face? Does he even deserve it?"
Qin Nianchu quietly chimed in, "Cheng Zhou scared off her boyfriend."
She was so angry that she scolded Cheng Zhou.
Yun Li had grown bolder. "Ran Ran, I really think your ex-boyfriend is not reliable."
"I know, I’m just having some fun. Isn’t it nice to play around with someone so good-looking?"
Yun Li and Qin Nianchu exchanged glances and couldn't help but laugh.
The two men stopped singing, and the atmosphere in the private room suddenly turned cold.
Shu Ran stood up, her steps a bit unsteady, but she managed to keep her balance. Yun Li knew her drinking capacity and temperament hadn’t been a hindrance.
She grabbed the microphone and started to choose a song.
She picked "All Is Love" by Phoenix Legend.
Yun Li poured herself a glass of wine and took a small sip. The man who had been deprived of the microphone finally had a moment to rest; he sat next to Yun Li and poured himself a drink as well.
"Finally, I can take a break."
"Yun Li, how many days off do you have this time?"
"This time it's longer; I won't be back until later." Her voice was slightly louder due to the music, sounding clearer than before.
Xu nodded, crossing her arms and leaning back on the sofa.
Qin Nianchu began discussing the latest gossip in their circle with Yun Li.
Qin Nianchu had shared a dormitory with Yun Li during university, but she was from the Chinese National Folk Dance Department. By chance, she had been assigned to a dormitory of the Chinese Classical Dance Department, which allowed her to become good friends with Yun Li.
After graduation, she was discovered by a talent scout and entered the entertainment industry. Although she wasn’t a huge star, she was still remembered by many viewers for her roles as second female leads, each one remarkable in its own right. Thus, she knew quite a bit about the gossip in the entertainment world.
Yun Li’s eyes widened in shock as she didn’t even notice when the door to the private room opened.
Two men appeared at the entrance.
One of them wore a black trench coat and black trousers; his striking features were sharper than ever before. He wore silver-rimmed glasses that made him look refined and elegant. However, there was an air of coldness about him that subdued that elegance; his deep-set eyes appeared shadowy behind the silver frames.
