Even though it was the New Year, when she returned to Jiang Chen's home, Zhou Rongli wasn't just catching up; she was there to show off.

“I heard from your mother that you just returned from Europe. Your mom really splurged on that month-long trip; it must have cost quite a bit. By the way, is this your boyfriend?” Chu Mei said with a cheerful smile as she looked at Jiang Lu and Jiang Chen.
“It's not too bad. Aunt Chu, this is my newly recognized older brother, Jiang Chen,” Jiang Lu introduced him.
“Older brother? Oh, good!” Chu Mei looked at Jiang Chen with a condescending smile, thinking he might be her boyfriend. He didn't seem impressive and appeared too shy to admit it.
“Hello, Aunt Chu!” Despite his poor first impression of Chu Mei, Jiang Chen maintained his politeness.
“Brother, let me take you to the kitchen to meet my mom!” Jiang Lu pulled Jiang Chen into the kitchen.
“Mom, this is Jiang Chen!” Once inside the kitchen, Jiang Lu immediately introduced him.
“Mom, thank you for all the dishes! Do you need any help?” Jiang Chen said as he saw Zhou Rongli, who left a good impression on him.
“Xiao Chen, you're here! I’m so happy to hear from Xiao Lu that she has an older brother now. You’re a guest; how could I ask you to help? Xiao Lu, take your brother to watch TV; I’ll be done shortly,” Zhou Rongli replied quickly.
“Brother, you don’t need to be polite; these chores aren’t for you. Just go watch TV; my mom and I can handle things in the kitchen,” Jiang Lu said with a smile as she pushed Jiang Chen out of the kitchen.
Meanwhile, the Jiang Bao family chatted casually with Chu Mei in the living room. As for Jiang Chen, he didn’t watch TV but sat in a chair playing on his phone like the other young people.
It wasn’t that he wanted to play on his phone; rather, he found little to discuss with Aunt Chu. The status she flaunted was something he could only aspire to in his past life, but in this life, it didn’t stir any feelings within him. Hearing her self-satisfied tone made him shake his head internally.
The atmosphere was somewhat awkward for the Jiang Bao family, who weren’t used to boasting and had little worth bragging about.
“By the way, what’s your adopted son studying or where is he working?” Chu Mei asked.
“He's working in Shanghai, I believe,” replied the Jiang Bao family, smiling.
“What does he do? I’ve heard that these years graduates have a hard time finding jobs and that salaries are low. But in a big city like Shanghai, earning ten thousand a month should be acceptable,” said Chu Mei, smiling.
“Uh, something like that; we didn’t inquire too much about the specifics,” answered the Jiang Bao family, who indeed didn’t know much about their adopted son since he was recognized by their daughter.
“Oh, it’s tough to settle down in Shanghai. Buying a house there isn’t easy; it probably takes at least ten years just to save for a down payment. You seem quite open-minded about it; buying a Passat is still decent. Two hundred thousand isn’t bad since you can’t afford a house in Shanghai. It’s better to enjoy a car instead. But this Passat, it doesn’t have much prestige; my family has an A8 and thinks it’s not classy enough—wanting to switch to a Bentley,” said Chu Mei, her words dripping with subtle bragging.
