Although the brothers were at odds, Zhou Yaohui understood Zhou Yinkun well.
For instance, he was someone who responded better to gentle persuasion than to force. He also showed little interest in women.
His repeated insistence on holding onto Xiaxia was not because he had any interest in such a young girl, but rather because Xiaxia was his daughter.
The more he protected his daughter, the more Zhou Yinkun would push back.
Thus, Zhou Yaohui said, "Xiaxia is on summer vacation. If she wants, she can go stay with her uncle for a few days and have some fun."
This answer surprised both Zhou Yinkun and Zhou Xiaxia. The latter pouted and shook her head, indicating that she did not want to go.
Seeing his daughter's aggrieved expression pained Zhou Yaohui's heart, though he showed no sign of it on his face. What was more important at the moment was to avoid a confrontation between Zhou Yinkun and Tuo Sha, especially not under the watchful eyes of the Thai government.
He glanced at Tuo Sha and the others, realizing that the snipers outside were using red dot sights. It was no surprise; this technology had been widely adopted by military forces around the world. Aiming through a red dot sight could enhance shooting accuracy during high-speed movements and while the body was swaying.
In other words, even if Tuo Sha and his men moved quickly, they would not be able to evade sniper bullets.
Tuo Sha had not expected Zhou Yaohui to show up. When he noticed him looking over, Tuo Sha said, "Yaohui, I didn't expect you to come. Since you're here, could you do me a favor and let my men leave?"
Even without Tuo Sha asking, Zhou Yaohui intended to protect him.
Given Tuo Sha's decades-long friendship with Sai Peng, if word got out that Tuo Sha died at the hands of Sai Peng's son, it would directly tarnish the old man's reputation and impact future business dealings. Setting aside those concerns, he had called Tuo Sha "uncle" for so many years; he could not just stand by and watch him die at Zhou Yinkun's hands.
Zhou Yaohui nodded at Tuo Sha before turning his gaze toward Zhou Yinkun.
The latter was playing with a strand of Xiaxia's hair, bringing it to his nose to smell its fragrance.
When Zhou Xiaxia saw her father approaching, she immediately wanted to go over. However, Zhou Yinkun pulled her back by the waist, effectively hiding her behind him.
Zhou Yaohui stopped a short distance from Zhou Yinkun, positioning himself almost directly between Zhou Yinkun and Tuo Sha. As he approached, A Yao shifted his aim from Tuo Sha to Zhou Yaohui.
Zhou Yaohui glanced at A Yao but felt no fear of the dark barrel aimed at him.
"What do you want?" he asked straightforwardly.
After a long time, they finally got to the point. Zhou Yinkun raised his chin and replied, "Someone wants my life. What do you think I want?"
"Change your mind," Zhou Yaohui said. "Dad already knows about this. If you kill him, you'll only anger the old man. What good will that do you? Just agree to let him go and don't touch his grandson, Song En. You can have money or guns, whatever you want."
Zhou Yinkun scoffed, "Then let our uncle kneel and bow to me ten times. Isn't that part of our excellent traditional culture?"
Zhou Yaohui frowned.
"Alright, alright," Zhou Yinkun said. "Since my big brother is here in person, I should at least give you some face. A Yao, step aside. Don't point your gun at my brother."
It was the first time Zhou Yaohui had seen Zhou Yinkun so agreeable; he hesitated for a few seconds upon hearing those words.
Logically speaking, for someone who was being hunted for his life, Zhou Yinkun wouldn't just let it go. However, killing Tuo Sha and the Hong Wa Gang members would only add a few more corpses to the pile, and Zhou Yinkun wouldn't gain anything from it. If it reached the old man's ears, he would certainly face dire consequences.
So Zhou Yaohui turned his gaze back to Tuo Sha.
"Uncle, using one life to exchange for a finger is also against the rules. With your decades-long friendship with my dad, what do you think would happen if he found out you wanted to kill his son?" Zhou Yaohui said. "Let's put this matter to rest and not bring it up again."
"Fine," Tuo Sha replied and then looked at Zhou Yinkun. "As long as you don't touch my grandson again, remember today's events; whenever you want to settle this, just say the word."
Zhou Yaohui was also watching him, and Zhou Yinkun smiled charmingly. "Alright, uncle."
Zhou Xiaxia listened anxiously to their conversation; the more she heard Zhou Yinkun's voice filled with laughter, the more uneasy she felt. It wasn't until she saw him raise his hand and the red dots on those people's heads instantly disappear that she finally believed he wouldn't kill anyone.
Before getting into the car, Tuo Sha paused and said, " A Hui."
Zhou Yaohui turned around to face Tuo Sha.
"Thank you."
Zhou Yaohui smiled as he watched Tuo Sha and the others get into the car.
Zhou Xiaxia finally let go of her worries, but she didn’t notice that the man in front of her had lost his smile, his gaze fixed on Zhou Yaohui.
He raised his right hand, the Gun Barrel discreetly aimed at Zhou Yaohui's back. From this angle, it looked like he was targeting Zhou Yaohui, but it also seemed like he was aiming at Tuo Sha, who was about to get into the car. However, if he wanted to kill Tuo Sha, he could have done it just moments ago—
Zhou Xiaxia gasped in shock; the real target was her father!
With a loud bang, just as the three black cars from Hong Wa Gang were pulling away, a gunshot echoed throughout Sathorn Tower.
Zhou Yaohui turned around and saw a gun fall to the ground. His obedient daughter had somehow dashed out from behind Zhou Yinkun and had bitten down hard on his right hand.
Zhou Yinkun himself was equally taken aback.
He never expected that Zhou Xiaxia, who trembled at the sight of him and didn’t dare raise her voice, would suddenly leap forward and bite him. In that split second, even A Yao didn’t react in time; Zhou Yinkun’s bullet went astray and missed Zhou Yaohui.
To be precise, Zhou Xiaxia had sunk her teeth into the area near his wrist, just below the thumb. She bit down so hard that her mouth was filled with blood, nearly tearing off a piece of flesh.
Pain and rage surged through Zhou Yinkun simultaneously. He grabbed the girl by the chin with his left hand, squeezing with enough force to nearly crush her jawbone. Zhou Xiaxia immediately cried out in pain, but before she could recover, his bloody right hand tightened around her throat, slamming her hard against the side of the car.
A wave of agony hit her as she felt like her spine would shatter from the impact.
In just a few seconds, the terrifying sensation of suffocation turned her face blue. Zhou Yaohui took a step forward and fired a shot at A Yao. As A Yao dodged, Zhou Yaohui's gun was already pressed against Zhou Yinkun's head.
