In the Confinement Room, the air seemed to solidify, carrying a musty odor that invaded the nostrils. Xiao Meng was shackled to the wall by heavy iron chains, sharp pains shooting through her wrists, causing her to gasp. She pouted, attempting to move her restrained body, but found the bindings far sturdier than she had anticipated.
Through the cracks in the wall, a few lonely stars squeezed in, flickering with faint light in the darkness. Xiao Meng stared at them dreamily, as if seeking solace from their distant glow. "Stellar Compass... in the southeast..." she murmured, her voice as light as a feather, afraid to disturb the silence surrounding her.
Suddenly, her pupils shifted dramatically, her once-clear eyes enveloped by an ancient and mysterious light. A powerful energy surged within her, as if a volcano that had slept for millennia was finally awakening. "I... remember now..." Her voice deepened and grew hoarse, as if she had transformed into another person.
In an instant, countless points of starlight began to appear on the walls of the Confinement Room, converging to form a vast and enigmatic Star Map. The ancient Star Map seemed alive, slowly rotating and emitting a mesmerizing glow.
Then, a brilliant beam of light erupted from Xiao Meng's chest, revealing an ancient and exquisite necklace that floated gently into view. The necklace was composed of countless tiny Star Fragments, radiating an enchanting brilliance.
"Starry Marriage Contract..." Xiao Meng reached out and gently caressed the necklace; it was a memory belonging to the Ancient Priestess—a destined bond between her and the Star Master of the Celestial Realm, known as Sunshine.
At that moment, hurried footsteps and chaotic shouts echoed from outside the Confinement Room. "Over there! Quick! Capture her!" "We can't let her escape! The Elder has ordered us to bring her back!"
The door of the Confinement Room was violently kicked open, and several masked figures in black rushed in with weapons drawn, their faces filled with murderous intent as if they aimed to tear everything apart.
"Enchantress! Let's see where you can run!" The leader of the black-clad figures shouted angrily as he lunged toward Xiao Meng with his blade raised.
In a critical moment, a figure appeared before Xiao Meng like a ghost. Sunshine stood there wielding a silver longsword, his gaze icy as he surveyed the enemies before him. The tip of his sword pointed directly at them, proclaiming his resolve.
"To touch her, you must first get past me!" Sunshine's voice was deep and powerful, carrying an undeniable authority.
Xiao Meng looked at Sunshine standing protectively in front of her, a wave of inexplicable emotion swelling within her. She knew he had come; he was here to protect her.
"Sunshine... you..." she whispered softly.
"Don't be afraid; I'm here," Sunshine replied without turning back. The two stood back-to-back, facing their enemies together. Their silhouettes shone resolutely under the starlight, like two unshakeable mountains.
"Hmph! You refuse to walk the path of heaven and instead barge into hell!" The Black-Clad Leader sneered and gestured for his subordinates to attack.
The black-clad figures charged toward Sunshine and Xiao Meng with furious shouts; blades clashed in an instant. Sunshine wielded his longsword skillfully, dodging enemy attacks while constantly seeking opportunities to counterattack.
Xiao Meng was not idle either; she quickly pulled out a stack of peculiar talismans from her waist and began chanting incantations. The talismans emitted a faint glow as if containing some mysterious power.
"Witchcraft Spell... Three Lives Stone appear!" Xiao Meng exclaimed sharply as she forcefully tossed the talismans onto the ground.
In an instant, a dazzling light rose from the ground, and a massive stone appeared out of thin air. The stone emanated an ancient and mysterious aura, as if it had endured countless years of trials. The figures in black were startled by this sudden change, pausing their actions and looking fearfully at the giant stone before them.
At that moment, a familiar voice descended from the sky. "Xiao Meng! I'm here to rescue you!" A girl dressed in herbalist robes landed gracefully beside Xiao Meng. She carried a large medicine box on her back and wore a mischievous smile on her face.
"Qing Mei? What are you doing here?" Xiao Meng asked in surprise.
"Of course I'm here to save you! I've been wanting to deal with those black-clad people for a long time!" Qing Mei said proudly, pulling out several vials filled with green liquid from her medicine box. "This is my specially formulated paralyzing agent; it will ensure they can't move!"
As she spoke, she tossed the vials towards the black-clad figures. The vials arced through the air and accurately struck their targets. The black-clad individuals fell to the ground instantly, paralyzed and unable to move.
"Done!" Qing Mei clapped her hands triumphantly.
Sunshine observed everything unfolding before him and turned to Xiao Meng, asking, "What... what is going on?"
Seeing his confusion, Qing Mei couldn't help but roll her eyes. "I mean, Sunshine, are you silly? You clearly have the ability to locate Xiao Meng anytime with your star positioning skills; why didn't you show up sooner?"
Sunshine's ears turned bright red as he stammered, "I... I was waiting for you to call me..."
Xiao Meng couldn't help but laugh at Sunshine's shy demeanor. "Alright, alright, I know you're shy," she said with a smile. "But next time, you can't do this again! Otherwise, I might get angry!"
Sunshine quickly nodded in agreement. Qing Mei watched the two of them and sighed.
"Ugh, what a pair of fools," she shook her head and remarked.
Just then, Xiao Meng suddenly felt dizzy; her body began to tremble uncontrollably. "What... what's happening to me?" she asked in pain.
Seeing this, Sunshine rushed to support Xiao Meng, concerned. "Xiao Meng, are you okay?"
Xiao Meng shook her head, trying hard to stay conscious. "I... I feel like something is about to come out..."
Suddenly, a brilliant beam of light erupted from Xiao Meng's body, enveloping the entire Confinement Room.
"Watch out!" Sunshine exclaimed as he quickly held Xiao Meng close.
At that moment, Xiao Meng's body stopped trembling abruptly, and her gaze turned vacant. "Sunshine... who are you?" she asked in confusion.
Sunshine was stunned; he looked at Xiao Meng in disbelief. "Xiao Meng... you... you don't remember me?" he asked with a trembling voice.
Xiao Meng shook her head. "I don't remember... I don't remember anything..." she said painfully.
Suddenly, her gaze fell upon the Star Map on the wall of the Confinement Room.
“What… what is this?” she murmured to herself.
Sunshine looked at Xiao Meng's bewildered expression, filled with concern. He knew that the fabric of time and space had once again unraveled, and Xiao Meng's memories had been reset once more.
“Xiao Meng…” he gently called her name, his voice laced with tenderness.
Xiao Meng merely stared at him in confusion. “Who are you? Why am I here?” she asked, puzzled.
The musty smell of the Confinement Room seemed to linger in her nostrils as Xiao Meng suddenly opened her eyes, her heart racing like a drum, thumping loudly and making her head buzz. The sharp pain in her wrist felt alarmingly real; she instinctively touched it and sighed in relief—just a mark, not real chains.
“Phew, thank goodness it was just a dream! That scared me to death!”
Wait, a dream?
She looked down at her palm, where a palm-sized talisman lay, exuding an ancient aura, its bizarre symbols seemingly mocking her ignorance.
Isn’t this something that only exists in dreams?
Even more bizarrely, the talisman appeared to be alive, glowing softly, and its light was directed toward the antique pocket watch hanging from Black-hearted Grandpa's waist!
The two objects resonated across the space between them, humming as if engaged in some mysterious dialogue.
Xiao Meng's eyes widened; she felt as if she had fallen into some monumental revelation.
Suddenly, the image on the surveillance screen caught her attention.
Was that Sunshine?
He held a strange compass in his hand, its needle spinning wildly before finally settling in one direction.
That direction… that direction… why does it look so much like… here?!
Xiao Meng shivered in fear. No way, could Sunshine really locate her across time and space? This was too fantastical!
“What are you doing?!” A furious shout startled Xiao Meng so much that she nearly swallowed the talisman.
Black-hearted Grandpa’s face twisted grotesquely, his eyes gleaming with greed.
He rushed towards Xiao Meng and snatched the talisman from her hand, his tone chilling as if it had drifted up from hell: “How dare you keep a magical artifact for yourself!”
Xiao Meng’s mind went blank as she instinctively grabbed the shattered pieces of an hourglass from the ground.
The moment her fingertips brushed against the hourglass, a strange vision flashed before her eyes: blinding white light, cold metallic instruments, and herself in a lab wearing a white coat, busy recording dense data.
A cold mechanical voice echoed in her ears: “Warning: Temporal disturbance imminent…”
“Warning? Warning about what?!” Before Xiao Meng could ponder further, Black-hearted Grandpa interrupted her roughly.
He grabbed her hair and slammed her down onto the ground. “Tell me! Where did this come from?!”
Xiao Meng gritted her teeth and refused to speak.
How could she explain? Should she say she brought it back from a dream? They would probably think she was insane!
Seeing her silence only fueled Black-hearted Grandpa’s rage further. He raised the talisman threateningly and snarled, “Not going to talk? Then don’t blame me for being rude!”
Despairing, Xiao Meng closed her eyes, bracing for the punishment she anticipated would come.
However, instead of the expected pain, she heard Black-hearted Grandpa scream in terror: “This… how is this possible?!”
Xiao Meng opened her eyes in confusion, discovering that Black-hearted Grandpa was staring blankly at the talisman in his hand, his face pale as if he had seen something terrifying.
The talisman was now radiating a dazzling light, within which a vague figure could be seen…
“You are… you are…” Black-hearted Grandpa stammered, pointing at the figure on the talisman, as if he had encountered a ghost.
Xiao Meng curiously looked towards the talisman, only to find that the figure was becoming clearer and more familiar…
“Mom?” she asked tentatively.
Upon hearing Xiao Meng’s voice, the figure slowly turned its head, revealing a gentle and kind face.
“Xiao Meng…” the figure softly called her name, extending its hand as if wanting to embrace her.
Xiao Meng’s heart raced, an inexplicable sense of warmth flooding over her.
She instinctively reached out, wanting to grasp that warm hand…
“Don’t touch her!” Black-hearted Grandpa suddenly shouted, snatching the talisman back and gripping it tightly in his hand. “She is mine! No one can take her away!”
Xiao Meng was stunned, watching Black-hearted Grandpa’s frantic demeanor, filled with confusion.
“Who… who is she?” she asked in bewilderment.
Black-hearted Grandpa did not answer; he just stared intently at the talisman.
“Quick… quick leave…” he suddenly whispered, “Get away from here… as far as possible…”
Xiao Meng was even more puzzled; she didn’t understand what Black-hearted Grandpa was afraid of or whether she should listen to him.
“Why?” she asked.
Black-hearted Grandpa remained silent but suddenly shoved her hard, pushing her toward the door of the Confinement Room.
“Go! Don’t come back!” he screamed.
Xiao Meng stumbled back a few steps, hitting the wall behind her.
She looked up at Black-hearted Grandpa’s twisted face, filled with fear and unease.
“What… what’s wrong with you?” she asked with a trembling voice.
Black-hearted Grandpa did not respond; he just continued to stare at her intensely.
Not daring to ask again, Xiao Meng turned and ran out of the Confinement Room, leaving behind this place that filled her with dread without looking back.
She didn’t know where to go or what would happen next.
All she knew was that she had to leave this place, as far away as possible…
