I scanned the entire dormitory but didn't see anything suspicious.
"Who are you? How did you just walk into our dorm?" a boy with a buzz cut asked us, clearly displeased.
I smiled and explained, "Well, I'm Sun Chen's Auntie. I came to see him about something. Could you tell me where he is?"
"Sun Chen?" Fang Bo called out tentatively.
The boy nodded.
"I'm Sun Chen's Auntie. I came to see him about something. Could you tell me where he is?" I asked the boy again with a smile.
"He went to the library," the boy replied.
"Okay, thank you!" I said, smiling as I thanked him.
Fang Bo and I left the dormitory and found Sun Chen downstairs.
"Cousin!" I called out.
Sun Chen turned around and upon seeing me and Fang Bo, his expression changed noticeably.
"Sis, what are you doing here?" Sun Chen asked.
"I came to see you!" I replied with a smile. "Do you have some time this afternoon? I have a few things I'd like to ask you."
"Ah? You have something to ask me?" Sun Chen looked taken aback. "Sister, what do you want to know?"
"It's like this," I said straightforwardly. "I heard that you have a good relationship with Ma Zhaofang."
Sun Chen clearly froze for a moment. "Ma Zhaofang? I don't know her..."
"Oh really?" I let out a cold laugh. "But I've heard that you and Ma Zhaofang are quite close."
Sun Chen appeared visibly flustered. "Sister, I really don't know Ma Zhaofang..."
"Alright, if you don't want to talk, that's fine," I softened my tone. "But can you tell me why you were wearing slippers near the crime scene this morning?"
I pulled out my badge and handed it to Sun Chen. "I'm a police officer. This morning, I saw you lurking under the tree, staring at the body. You'd better come clean!"
"I..." Sun Chen stammered, unable to find his words.
Fang Bo also took out the search warrant. "We're here to investigate the case."
"If you know anything, please tell us. Otherwise, we will have to take you back to the police station!"
Sun Chen clearly panicked. "No, no, no! I'll tell you..."
Taking a deep breath, Sun Chen began to explain his relationship with Ma Zhaofang.
He and Ma Zhaofang had the relationship of a university counselor and student.
Ma Zhaofang treated him very well.
When he first entered university, he suffered from severe anxiety.
Ma Zhaofang often guided and helped him.
He regarded Ma Zhaofang as an older sister.
Once, during military training, he suddenly fainted.
Ma Zhaofang took him to the infirmary.
After that, he frequently visited Ma Zhaofang, bringing her gifts.
Ma Zhaofang also cared for him as if he were her younger brother.
However, he later heard that Ma Zhaofang had resigned.
He had not seen her again.
"When was the last time you saw Ma Zhaofang?" Fang Bo asked, holding a notebook.
"It was... last Sunday, I think..." Sun Chen stammered.
"She sent me a message saying she wanted to commit suicide... I tried to talk her out of it..."
"Did she say why she wanted to take her own life?" Fang Bo asked again.
"She... she said she had offended someone... and that person kept causing her trouble..."
Sun Chen answered tremulously, "She also told me that the way she planned to commit suicide was by drowning..."
I exchanged glances with Fang Bo.
It seemed that this case was likely a suicide by Ma Zhaofang.
However, there was still one thing we didn't understand.
"Do you have feelings for Ma Zhaofang?" Fang Bo asked bluntly.
