After a long day of turmoil, Yu Suihuan was eager to return to her dormitory and get a good night's sleep. However, just as she entered the school gate, she was stopped by two police officers waiting at the security booth.
Alongside one of the officers, Wang Zhaoran and a mother-son duo rushed out, looking fierce.
"Officer, it's her! She's the one who knocked out my son's teeth! You have to do something for us!"
Wang Min, the boy's mother, glared at Yu Suihuan like a ferocious dog, ready to pounce without any regard for the situation. Her son held tightly onto her arm, trying to prevent her from advancing.
"Are you okay, Yu Suihuan?" Wang Zhaoran asked anxiously.
Earlier that morning, he had secretly purchased a siheyuan—a traditional courtyard house—without telling Yu Suihuan. The location was excellent, with a beautiful environment nearby. There was a lake and a garden not far off, perfect for morning exercises. He had intended to surprise her with the gift, but now everything had spiraled out of control.
"I'm fine! Look at me, I'm perfectly okay!" Yu Suihuan laughed carefree, unaware that Wang Zhaoran was feeling guilty enough to wish he could disappear.
"Of course you're fine! You little witch! You beat my son up like this; how could you be hurt?"
"You old hag, watch your mouth! How can a man let a little girl beat him up? Who would believe that? Officer, do you believe it?"
"It's this wretched woman who did it to my son!"
"Alright, alright, everyone quiet down!"
The police officer looked exasperated; this old woman had been rambling on for the entire afternoon. She buzzed around them like a fly, and he wished he could just seal her mouth shut.
The two officers scrutinized Yu Suihuan from head to toe and exchanged puzzled glances. This girl had a slender figure and appeared somewhat delicate; how could she possibly have knocked down a strong man who worked in the fields? It seemed utterly absurd.
"Officer, it's her! It's this wretched woman!"
Wang Min hid behind the police officers, pointing at Yu Suihuan with her finger.
"Please call over a few witnesses!"
The officer turned to the security guard on duty and relayed the request.
Before long, the guard returned, accompanied by several young women. Yu Suihuan glanced over; in addition to a few from her own dormitory, there were others from different rooms as well. She felt confident about her own dorm mates—they would likely support her. But what about the others? That was hard to say.
"Hello everyone, we would like to verify some details," the officer said.
The girls nodded earnestly, fully cooperative. However, what was surprising was how remarkably consistent their answers were. They all claimed that Wang Min's man had tried to hit Yu Suihuan, but ended up losing his balance and falling face-first to the ground.
Wang Zhaoran let out a sigh of relief and looked at the police officers.
"Comrades, you see, this old lady is just looking for trouble because she lost her daughter-in-law. Since she can't find her daughter-in-law, she's randomly picking someone to vent her frustrations on!"
Wang Zhaoran gazed at Yu Suihuan with a look of affection and continued, "Officer, this girl is timid by nature, with such slender arms and legs—how could she possibly hit a big man? Her waist is even thinner than his legs!"
Yu Suihuan caught Wang Zhaoran's hint and immediately stepped in, showcasing her acting skills.
"Yes, Officer! I can't carry heavy loads or lift anything! They are framing me! When he charged at me, I was terrified—I almost died from fright! Boohoo! I’ve been bullied and falsely accused; I need an explanation! This is defamation!"
Yu Suihuan vaguely remembered that in this era, spreading rumors could also lead to criminal charges.
"Little comrade," one of the officers said gently, "don't worry. Once we clarify the situation, we will certainly give you an explanation."
Yu Suihuan cried with tearful eyes, looking utterly pitiful and endearing.
