With only a week left until the college entrance examination, Yang Qinghe volunteered for the critical mission of capturing an Agent. A few days ago, he received instructions from his superiors about a suspected Agent communicating externally via radio near Qingfeng Mountain.
After reviewing the report, the Military District Chief's expression turned serious. There were some matters he could not disclose too openly. "Yang Qinghe," he said, "send a company from your unit. This is a significant operation, so it must be executed flawlessly! I request to lead the team personally!"
Yang Qinghe stood up, a hint of gravity in his demeanor. "Approved!" The Chief recognized Yang Qinghe's capabilities, which reassured him about the leadership of this mission. "Yes, sir!" Yang Qinghe aligned his feet, raised his chin, and saluted with precision and respect.
Of course, serving the country was paramount, but he harbored a small personal desire: he did not want to get engaged to Xue Lan. This time, Xue Lan had gone too far; her feelings had already stirred her father. His father was typically autocratic and used to getting his way. However, in front of his grandfather, he was like a submissive cat, having grown up under the shadow of his father's authority.
Xue Lan's family background and her appearance made her a highly sought-after marriage prospect in their circle. With such potential in-laws, his father had no reason to refuse. Naturally, Yang Qinghe did not wish to marry Xue Lan and wanted to avoid hearing their nagging as much as possible.
Qingfeng Mountain was known for its complex terrain and sparse population. At the foot of the mountain lay Qingfeng Village, home to only a few dozen families. They were currently uncertain whether the person in contact with the outside world was someone hidden within the village or an outsider concealed in the mountains transmitting signals as an Agent.
A team moved stealthily into the mountains from Wangbie Mountain Foot, taking advantage of the lack of attention. The deeper they ventured into the mountains, the denser the vegetation became. Apart from the chirping of birds and insects, they could occasionally hear the distant growls of wild beasts.
"Is there a wolf around?" a young warrior, lacking experience in the wild, asked with some concern.
"Don't worry, we have so many people here. It's just right for us to get some food," Yang Qinghe replied with a smile, patting the young warrior on the shoulder to encourage him.
With Yang Qinghe's reassurance, the young warrior seemed less afraid and followed the group deeper into the mountains. They ventured into the dense forest, occasionally spotting wild rabbits, indicating that food would not be a problem.
After spending most of the day trekking, the soldiers grew tired and squatted down by a small waterhole to rest. Suddenly, a Roe Deer peeked out from the trees.
Yang Qinghe made a shushing gesture, signaling everyone to quietly retreat from the woods and not to startle the prey. The Roe Deer seemed to have come for a drink but was cautious, sensing movement nearby.
If it had been another animal, it would have bolted by now. Once everyone had retreated, Yang Qinghe hid behind a large tree, waiting for the Roe Deer to come closer.
He crouched down, adjusted his breathing, and minimized his presence. Just as the Roe Deer lowered its head to drink, Yang Qinghe launched himself forward with explosive force, like an arrow released from a bow, striking his target.
He leaped onto the back of the Roe Deer, flipping his body around and locking his arms around its neck. In an instant, the Roe Deer collapsed.
Yang Qinghe didn’t give it a chance to react; one hand pressed firmly on its neck while the other formed a fist that came crashing down relentlessly on its head.
The others watched in awe as Yang Qinghe swiftly subdued the deer. They rushed forward to help but were taken aback when they saw that the deer's skull had already caved in significantly.
"My goodness!" one soldier exclaimed. "If that punch landed on a person, it would surely kill them!"
He was thoroughly impressed and realized he could no longer harbor any resentment towards Yang Qinghe for being younger than Ji Qingqing while holding the title of Ying Zhang.
Within half an hour, they had skinned and roasted the Roe Deer over an open fire.
The meat had a rich, smoky flavor that was delicious even without any seasoning. The warriors devoured it, grease dripping down their chins and leaving faint traces on their skin.
