A few people were enjoying chestnuts and pine nuts while chatting about various topics, laughter echoing through the room.
Suddenly, an urgent shout broke the cheerful atmosphere.
"Something's wrong! Yu Zhiqing is in trouble!"
As the group was engrossed in their conversation, the unexpected cry from outside caused a stir.
"What happened? What's going on?"
Yu Songyu quickly blocked the shouting Female Educated Youth at the door, fearing that bad news might disturb Xu Zhuzhen's unborn child.

Yu Songyu's first thought was that Zheng Chengxiu had been caught for peeking at banned books.
"They say she assaulted a female comrade!"
While Yu Songyu might have believed such accusations against others, she couldn't accept it regarding Zheng Chengxiu. That was just impossible.
"This year's quota for returning to the city has come down to just two spots. Yu Songyu was infuriated; she never expected such disgraceful events could unfold in this small mountain village.
By the time they reached Headquarters, night was falling, and the crowd that had gathered to watch Zheng Chengxiu being beaten had dispersed.
"They're forcing Yu Zhiqing to confess," someone said. "They're making her sign a confession."
Her eyes were red, but she couldn't speak up; in this situation, no one was willing to stand up for him. The others had no ties to Zheng Chengxiu, and many weren’t even familiar with him. What if standing up for him affected their own standing in the village? There would always be another chance to help, but who would dare offend the Village Secretary?
They did feel sorry for Zheng Chengxiu, so they could only secretly inform Yu Songyu, who had some slight acquaintance with him.

Following the direction of the voice, Yu Songyu hurried to Zheng Chengxiu's side.
