Yu Songyu sat on the kang, her mind in a whirl. She had not fully accepted her current situation. If she was alive, what about Bai Jie? Had she come here too? If she was dead, then what was going on? It felt like her head was about to explode. 0

After a moment, Yu Songyu decided to take things as they came. No matter what, it was best to observe the situation for now. 0

"Dear girl, Aunt Wang really doesn’t have any decent clothes. Please don’t mind them; just make do for now!" Aunt Wang said as she held out a pair of thick cotton pants and a dark blue outer garment that resembled workwear, placing them on the kang. 0

"Thank you, Aunt Wang! They’re quite nice!" Yu Songyu replied, understanding the situation and not being picky. 0

"As long as you don’t mind! Go ahead and change; I’ll go make some food!" Aunt Wang said with relief. She had been worried that the young girl from the city would look down on her old clothes. 0

But this girl was truly nice; she looked good when she smiled and spoke in a gentle manner. Yu Songyu left a very good impression on Aunt Wang. 0

Once Aunt Wang left, Yu Songyu quickly put on the pants and began to quietly survey her surroundings. The room was small, with half of it taken up by the kang, which was covered with a mat woven from bamboo or dried grass. 0

In one corner stood a shabby little wooden table, on which rested a round box made of paper or cloth containing needles, thread, fabric, and scissors. 0

The ceiling had only a small light bulb hanging from it, with an electric wire running along the wall before dangling down by the edge of the kang. 0

To her left were several small square windows. Because they were so small, even though it was snowing outside, the room still felt somewhat dim. 0

Behind her was an old wooden cabinet that looked quite vintage. It had no drawers, only four vertical doors with faded characters of good fortune pasted on them. 0

In one corner of the floor lay two wooden boxes, next to which were two rustic chairs. Aside from that, there were no other furnishings. 0

Yu Songyu felt a bit uneasy; she really wanted to know if Bai Jie was alive like her. How had she ended up in this world? What was the medium? And could she ever go back? 0

"Knock knock! Dear girl, are you done changing?" 0

"Yes, I’m done!" 0

"Come here and wipe your hands!" Aunt Wang called out as she handed over a warm towel and reached out to check the temperature of the kang. 0

"Thank you, Aunt Wang!" 0

Aunt Wang smiled and nodded before stepping outside. 0

Yu Songyu felt that it was somewhat inappropriate to just sit there waiting to eat without doing anything. Just as she was about to get up and do something, Yang Qinghe came in with a small dining table. 0

"Time to eat!" 0

Yang Qinghe's voice was calm and steady, giving a sense of reassurance that everything would be fine as long as he was around. 0

The meal was better than Yu Songyu had expected, featuring some mixed vegetable dumplings, wild vegetable soup, and even a fish. She had thought life in the countryside would be quite tough. 0

The wild vegetables were gathered during the warmer months when there were more than they could eat, and she had dried them herself, so they were very clean. The fish had been caught by the youths while ice fishing in the Dahe River. "Here, try it!" 0

Yu Songyu was not a picky eater to begin with, and this was her first meal in this strange world. She felt quite satisfied and thought that she would definitely repay Aunt Wang for her kindness in the future. 0

After dinner, Yang Qinghe helped Aunt Wang clear the table. 0

"By the way, I just discussed with Aunt Wang that since you didn’t bring any luggage, you can stay here for now!" 0
