Jiang Chen helped her up the slope, and when she was silent and sulky, she was indeed very beautiful.
"There are so many people!"
Upon reaching the ridge platform, the area around Guan Ri Tower was filled with crowds waiting for the sunrise.
"I don't like crowded places!" she complained.
"That's your problem!" Jiang Chen thought to himself. He had already fulfilled his duty as a classmate by accompanying her to the ridge platform; whether she liked it or not was none of his concern.
"Then you can help me find a place with fewer people!" Zhiruo said.
Was that a command? Jiang Chen wanted to refuse, but Zhiruo made a pained expression as if her ankle hurt. That annoying girl, he thought, "Fine!" he said, and then led her toward a desolate area that was hard to navigate.
After about fifteen minutes of wandering, they stumbled upon a secluded little platform. In front of them was a cliff, and to the right, they could see the dense crowd around Guan Ri Tower in the distance. The ground was covered with thin grass, and behind them were clusters of shrubs. Interestingly, there was a branch overhead that grew horizontally, about shoulder height, creating a very private spot.
"Is this good?" Jiang Chen asked, surprised that they had accidentally found such a nice location.
Zhiruo had already sat down on the grass and said, "It's so beautiful!"
The rolling sea of clouds unfolded before them, with the mountain peaks resembling islands in the ocean. In the distance, faint light glimmered on the ridges of the Jade Mountain range. Jiang Chen told Zhiruo that today’s sunrise would be just slightly to the right of Xiugulan Mountain.
"It's so beautiful!" Zhiruo said again.
They sat quietly together; the cold air kept mosquitoes away from the thickets. Zhiruo draped her coat over her shoulders, hugging her knees tightly as she gazed into the distance.
"It's so beautiful!" Jiang Chen thought too, but he was looking at Zhiruo's snow-white thighs beneath her skirt and the hint of white underwear visible at the top of her legs, which formed a lovely curve.
Jiang Chen jumped up onto the horizontal branch above him. Seeing this, Zhiruo eagerly tried to join him, standing up and playfully bouncing on her feet while sweetly saying, "Pull me up! Pull me up!"
Jiang Chen took her small hand firmly and lifted her onto his right side. Zhiruo happily kicked her feet in excitement and took a deep breath with her chest out, her face beaming with joy. Then she pulled out a harmonica from her coat—a silver 24-hole Tremolo in A—and began to play a gentle melody of spring.
Jiang Chen turned to look at her; Zhiruo's soft lips moved along with the harmonica, trembling slightly as she played. His heart raced along with hers; those lips were so delicate—if only... if only he could kiss them.
Jiang Chen deliberately shifted closer to her since there was no one around. He leaned his head slightly and boldly stared at her.
Zhiruo realized that Jiang Chen had noticed her beauty and felt pleased inside but tried to maintain an indifferent expression while gazing at the distant peaks. Jiang Chen's mind raced as he plotted how to deal with this coy girl.
As the soft notes from the harmonica floated down, she turned her head and their eyes met. Jiang Chen took her harmonica with his left hand and brought it to his mouth to play along; Zhiruo initially felt annoyed that he would use her personal instrument without permission but soon calmed down when she heard him continue her melody so well with one hand.
With his right hand free, he gently rested it on her shoulder. She shyly shook her body in response, prompting Jiang Chen to pull her into his embrace. She let out a soft protest as he slid from high notes to low ones on the harmonica, even going slightly off-key as he accidentally kissed her cheek.
