"Master, you called for me. What is it that you need?" Ye Chen asked, his voice lacking confidence and dropping to a whisper. 0

To be honest, Ye Chen wasn't afraid of the kind of coldness that comes from someone who simply doesn't want to engage. That kind of coldness was obvious; one could see it at a glance and accept it. After all, when faced with a block of ice, people instinctively know not to provoke it and would avoid touching it. It was as if that person had drawn an invisible red line around themselves, warning others that any consequences of crossing it would be their own responsibility. 0

However, facing Pei Guanjing was different. On the surface, he appeared to be just a normal person—perhaps with slightly fewer expressions than most—but his thoughts were as inscrutable as a needle at the bottom of the ocean. Ye Chen felt that in Pei Guanjing's presence, his own intelligence fell short. 0

Pei Guanjing excelled at playing games behind the scenes. The problem was that Ye Chen had no idea when or how he would strike next. 0

Thus, Ye Chen genuinely feared Pei Guanjing. This feeling was akin to an instinctive fear of snakes. 0

Just the thought of it sent chills down his spine. 0

At that moment, Pei Guanjing's gaze slowly shifted to meet his, locking eyes with him. 0

Yet he remained silent. 0

In a daze, Ye Chen imagined a snake leisurely slithering up his wrist, its cold body coiling around him as it slowly flicked its bright red tongue at him. 0

Could he just turn and run? Oh heavens! 0

Ye Chen dared not make a sound. But finally, he heard Pei Guanjing speak. 0

He felt almost moved to tears; truly. 0

But when he finally understood what Pei Guanjing was saying, he nearly burst into tears. 0

Pei Guanjing said, "Starting today, you will study the Medical Book and learn pharmacology. I will check your progress every three days." 0

"Ah?" Ye Chen was taken aback by Pei Guanjing's words, his eyes wide open in disbelief, as if he couldn't trust his own ears. 0

Before Ye Chen could react, Pei Guanjing handed him several Medical Books from behind him, his expression calm and his tone indifferent. "Start with this 'Bai Cao Tu Jian.' I will assess you one by one. I hope you won’t disappoint Master’s expectations." As he spoke, Pei Guanjing placed a firm hand on Ye Chen's right shoulder, as if imparting strength, then released it and waved his hand. "I won’t interfere with your break time; you can do as you please. But remember to return on time this afternoon for your duties." 0

Ye Chen silently cursed in his heart. This old fox must have known that he had been eavesdropping in the Medicine Hall earlier. He didn’t expose him, probably wanting to see what he would do. Now that he had caught him, instead of scolding or punishing him, he devised this task of memorization to torment him. This underhanded tactic was truly well-played. 0

He had originally planned to go to the Canteen and have some fun, but now all he could think about was the memorization task assigned by Pei Guanjing. How could he enjoy himself now? 0

As he walked along the path, Ye Chen casually flipped through the books. There were three in total: 'Bai Cao Tu Jian,' 'Pharmacology,' and 'Extraordinary Meridians and Eight Vessels.' The first two were clearly professional medical texts, but the last one looked like the title of a martial arts novel. 0

Curiosity piqued, Ye Chen eagerly opened it up and flipped through the pages. This ancient book had no table of contents; it was filled with diagrams of human meridian distributions and divided into six sections based on male and female Tian Qian, Zhong Yong, and Kun Ze. 0

He first came across the section on the male Kun Ze meridians. The book stated that Kun Ze belonged to Yin and was located in Kun; it was a perfect match with Tian Qian. If one were to forcibly combine with Zhong Yong, their entire aura would become chaotic, Xin Xiang would become agitated, the meridians would reverse, ultimately leading to an explosive demise. 0

Suddenly, Ye Chen's mind flashed back to his biological mother, who seemed to have left when the original owner was very young. Could it be that she perished at such a young age because of a violent Xin Xiang due to being with Zhong Yong? As this thought crossed his mind, Ye Chen's gaze darkened and a hint of melancholy appeared on his face. 0

"Ye Chen, what are you looking at?" 0

Unbeknownst to him, Ye Chen had already reached the entrance of the Canteen. 0

Fu Gui pulled the book from his hands and, with a swift motion, dragged him into the kitchen. He handed him a meat bun left on the table, smiling as he said, “There isn’t much meat in the Military Camp. These were made from rabbit meat brought by a few patrolling soldiers who got friendly with Chef Wang a few days ago. I saved two for you and Shuanzi. Make sure to eat them quickly; they won’t taste good if they get cold. If the others in the Military Camp see us, they might say we’re stealing military rations.” 0

“Thank you, Brother Fu Gui and Chef Wang!” Ye Chen’s eyes lit up instantly, shimmering with excitement. When he smiled, he revealed a perfect set of eight teeth, his grin radiant. 0

Fu Gui looked at him, momentarily lost in thought. He raised his hand and patted Ye Chen on the Submissive lder, exclaiming, “You little rascal! It’s only been a few days since we last met, and you’ve grown taller. How come you’ve become even more handsome?” 0

“More handsome?” Ye Chen took a small bite of the bun and tilted his head in confusion. “I’m not just more handsome; I’m more dashing!” 0

“Yes, yes! Our Ye Chen is more dashing!” 0

Laughter erupted in the canteen as several voices chimed in. 0

Seeing them laugh, Ye Chen couldn’t help but join in, his earlier worries seemingly dissipating in the warmth of their mirth. 0
