As the rain subsided, the group set off once more towards the cave in the deep mountains for refuge. The mountain path grew increasingly rugged, and the muddy ground made walking exceedingly difficult. Mu Yunfan led the way, constantly observing the road conditions and reminding everyone, “Fellow Villagers, this area is slippery; watch your step!” 0

A young man stumbled slightly while carrying his elderly mother on his back. Seeing this, Fu Xingchen quickly stepped forward to assist him, saying, “Brother, let me give you a hand.” The young man glanced at him gratefully, adjusted his pace, and walked steadily alongside Fu Xingchen. Meanwhile, Su Yizhi stayed at the back of the group to ensure no villagers fell behind. He noticed a little girl panting heavily from exhaustion and squatted down, saying, “Come on, uncle will carry you for a bit.” The little girl hesitated for a moment before climbing onto Su Yizhi’s back. He stood up and quickened his pace to catch up with the group. 0

After enduring much hardship, they finally arrived at the cave nestled in the mountains. The cave was spacious enough to accommodate everyone. Mu Yunfan let out a long sigh of relief and said, “Fellow Villagers, we are safe for now; let’s take a break.” The villagers dropped their burdens and sat down on the ground, weary from their journey. 0

Fu Xingchen and several young villagers began clearing the cave by removing piles of dead branches and stones from the entrance. “Come on everyone, lend a hand and move these stones,” Fu Xingchen called out. Together, they worked diligently to clear away the rocks. Su Yizhi led a few women inside the cave to find dry spots for settling down the elderly and children. “Sisters, lay out the bedding here; this spot is relatively dry,” Su Yizhi directed. 0

Once everything was settled, Mu Yunfan checked their supplies of food and water. His brow furrowed as he turned to Fu Xingchen and Su Yizhi, saying, “The food and water we brought won’t last long. We need to figure out how to find more food and a water source in these mountains.” Fu Xingchen nodded in agreement. “I’ll go with a few brothers to look around for wild fruits or streams.” After saying this, he selected several strong young villagers, took some basic tools with them, and headed deeper into the forest. 0

Fu Xingchen’s group searched carefully through the woods. Suddenly, one villager shouted, “Young Master Fu! There are wild fruits over here!” Everyone gathered around to see a tree laden with bright red fruits. Fu Xingchen approached to inspect them; after confirming they were safe to eat, he said, “Everyone be careful when picking them; don’t break any branches.” They all began to pick fruit diligently and soon filled several baskets. 0

Meanwhile, Su Yizhi discovered a spot near the cave where water was seeping from a rock face. He found a leaf to catch some of the droplets and tasted it before reporting back to Mu Yunfan. “This water has no strange taste; it should be drinkable. Let’s dig a pit to channel it over here.” Mu Yunfan immediately organized the villagers to get to work. Using hoes and sticks, they dug until they had created a simple reservoir. The droplets collected slowly filled up the pool. 0

As night fell, several bonfires were lit inside the cave to warm everyone. Mu Yunfan walked among the villagers to reassure them: “Fellow Villagers, although our situation is difficult now, as long as we work together, we will surely get through this tough time. We don’t know when this war will end; we must prepare for a long stay.” An elder nodded in agreement and said, “Young Master Mu is right; with you all here, we feel secure.” 0

That night, Fu Xingchen and Su Yizhi took turns keeping watch. Fu Xingchen patrolled outside the cave with his sword in hand, alert for any sounds in the surroundings. Moonlight filtered through the trees in shadowy patterns. Inside the cave, Su Yizhi occasionally checked on how well the villagers were resting. Suddenly, a child woke up crying. Su Yizhi hurried over and gently comforted him: “Don’t be afraid, child; uncle is here. Go back to sleep; tomorrow will be a new day.” With Su Yizhi’s soothing words, the child gradually fell back asleep. 0

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the entrance of the cave. Mu Yunfan rose early and gathered everyone to discuss their plans moving forward. “Fellow Villagers, we need to assign some people to take turns keeping watch over any movements down below; others should continue searching for food and water sources. If anyone has suggestions or ideas, please share.” 0

A young villager stood up: “Young Master Mu, I’m willing to keep watch; I’ll make sure nothing slips by.” The others responded enthusiastically as well, eager to take on various tasks. 0
