"Heh, do you think I want to interfere? I'm just worried you'll embarrass the nobility of Great Britain," Bowen Delson said, seething with anger. He couldn't vent his frustration on Monroe, so he directed it at Jiang Chen instead.
"Kid, you have thirty seconds to get lost. If you're still in front of me after thirty seconds, don't blame me for being rude," Bowen warned darkly, glaring at Jiang Chen. He raised his right hand and glanced at his watch. "Time starts now."
Ni Xingyi quickly translated Bowen's words for Jiang Chen. Upon hearing them, Jiang Chen merely smiled faintly and didn't take it to heart. Instead, he walked over to a nearby table, poured himself a drink, and sipped leisurely.
"I've already said I won't dance, so forget about being your partner. Let's have a proper chat after the ball," Jiang Chen said with a smile, glancing at Monroe. Throughout the exchange, he completely ignored Bowen.
This infuriated Bowen even more as he stared at his watch. "Ten seconds left, nine seconds..." Bowen counted down, but Jiang Chen ignored him as if he were talking to himself.
"Alright, thirty seconds are up. If you don't leave, I'll make you," Bowen declared. He was tall and had trained in martial arts since childhood; while not a master, he could easily handle an ordinary person.
Bowen viewed Jiang Chen as just another ordinary person from Huaxia—thin and frail like a sickly man—and he felt disdainful. The fact that Jiang Chen disregarded him only fueled his cold laughter as he planned to cripple him.
As Bowen charged forward with aggression, Jiang Chen quietly unleashed a burst of Spiritual Energy that struck Bowen's legs. Due to inertia, Bowen stumbled forward and fell hard, landing face-first on the ground and losing several teeth in the process, blood pouring from his mouth.
"Mr. Bowie, how careless of you! You should hurry to the hospital," Qin Xusha said kindly as she approached to help Bowen up in English.
A number of people couldn't help but laugh; Bowen was quite the spectacle—his plans thwarted before they even began. No one had seen Jiang Chen's covert actions, so everyone assumed it was just an accident.
Though some suspected Jiang Chen had cheated, without evidence they could only chalk it up to misfortune.
Mengli Delson saw his grandson fall so badly and quickly ordered someone to help him to the hospital.
At the hospital, Bowen happened to run into Li Wenhou. Neither of them understood how they had been injured—one had bitten his own tongue off while the other had simply tripped and knocked out several teeth.
Neither Bowen nor Li Wenhou was worth Jiang Chen's concern; with these two nuisances gone, things were much quieter.
Though Bowen had left the scene, other pests remained—many sought to become Monroe's dance partner, and now Jiang Chen was like a thorn in their side.
Several people began urging Count Smithan to expel Jiang Chen from the event. However, this time Count Smithan looked solemnly at Jiang Chen for a moment before smiling and changing the subject. "Everyone should go dance! Since Monroe has chosen her partner, I can only support her."
With the count saying so, although the young nobles were reluctant, they had no choice but to maintain their gentlemanly demeanor; continuing to press would be unbecoming of their noble status.
As music began to play, many people stepped onto the dance floor and started dancing.
Most people's attention was still focused on Monroe.
