Meanwhile, dark currents were stirring within the capital. Su Wanqing was reviewing memorials in the imperial study when she suddenly received a secret report: several high-ranking officials were conspiring.
"Just as I expected," Su Wanqing sneered. "Summon General Liu."
However, the person she sent did not return for a long time. Realizing that something was amiss, Su Wanqing quickly changed into plain clothes and prepared to leave the palace. Just then, a group of Imperial Guards burst in.
"Your Majesty," the leading officer said with a forced smile, "please come with us."

In that critical moment, a flash of sword light cut through the air.
"Who dares to touch the Empress!" Liu Rumei descended from above.
It turned out she had already infiltrated the capital and had been secretly protecting Su Wanqing all along. In the ensuing chaos, Liu Rumei shielded Su Wanqing as they fought their way through the encirclement.
