"I’m lying to you."
As Xu Lie's words fell, the Purple-Haired Elder became alert, his tension palpable as he drew his weapon, holding a bow in his left hand and an arrow in the other. He looked nothing like a noble mage; instead, he resembled a jungle archer.
Xu Lie understood well that the current state of Magic Text in the Burning Fire realm was still in its infancy. Otherwise, there would be no need for such frequent large-scale exchange meetings across the All Continent. The development of Magic Text had just begun, comparable to the late Bronze Age or the early Iron Age in Xu Lie's time.
At this point, mages lacked standardized equipment; they mostly used whatever they were accustomed to. However, thanks to the mysteries of magic, mages were far more capable than the ancient people of Xu Lie's era. Things that were generally impossible during the Bronze and Iron Ages could be accomplished with ease by mages, allowing them to create various miracles.
With every gain comes a loss; even if the paths differ across realms, this truth remains constant. Those on the path of technology may struggle in the early stages but can explore truths more conveniently and swiftly later on. In contrast, those on the path of magic enjoy its conveniences but must bear the cost of facing greater challenges in exploring truths later.
After all, people on the technological path actively engage in research for a better life. Those on the magical path might not feel such urgency; having magic at their disposal makes them less inclined to pursue research—enjoyment seems sufficient.
With that aside, the Purple-Haired Elder sighed inwardly about his misfortune. If only they were farther apart! At such close range, his lightning magic could easily backfire and harm him. Yet he couldn’t afford to dwell on that; being injured was far better than falling into the hands of an Evil Mage. Reiner had traveled extensively and knew well about the wickedness of certain Evil Mages.
Seeing that his opponent was about to strike, Xu Lie made no move at all; with just a thought, Reiner's bow and arrow suddenly appeared in Xu Lie's hands. A careful glance—no, just a quick sweep—revealed that this was merely an ordinary wooden bow and iron arrow, devoid of any magical intricacies.
The bow and arrow were not essential tools for Reiner’s casting; they served merely as auxiliary props or psychological cues. Burning Fire was a classical Idealism Magic realm, not aligned with modern magical systems. The former's magic is idealistic—its upper limits are infinitely high while its lower limits are pitifully low.
The latter would categorize magic into different levels, such as first-tier and second-tier, with both upper and lower limits being quite high. Therefore, the mages in the Burning Fire realm often use items that provide them with stable psychological reinforcement, much like Reiner's bow and arrows.
Oh no! Reiner's heart sank; he couldn't discern what kind of magic his opponent was using. Xu Lie glanced at the bow and then at Reiner's hair color: Thunder Element affinity?
There was no need to ask; well-versed in the script, Xu Lie knew very well that Reiner was a Thunder Mage and one of the three initiators of the All-Continent Mage Exchange Conference. This act was merely a ruse to deceive and gain Reiner's trust.
Reiner had no intention of responding; there was nothing to discuss with the Evil Mage, especially when it was obvious from his hair color. Why ask such a foolish question?
Xu Lie, undeterred by Reiner's silence, casually threw out a second question: "Have you ever considered...?"
Not relying on the arrows shot out but rather temporarily gathering Thunder Element in special arrows beforehand, ready to be released when needed.
Reiner's expression changed; he was clearly intrigued. Of course! Why hadn’t he thought of that before? This way seemed even better.
