Late at night, while William and Mers were investigating Xu Lie's residence, the upper echelons of the Great Federation mobilized. They secretly assembled an elite team to conduct a collective arrest of the Arms Tycoon and his key executives. It’s important to note that within the territory of the Great Federation, Arms Tycoons were not merely selling weapons; they were essentially leveraging violent organizations, receiving investments from major conglomerates, and supporting numerous politicians.
Like insatiable monsters, their greed devoured the entire industrial chain, ultimately forming a colossal interest group known as the Military-Industrial Complex. Ordinary measures—legislation, investigations—could not shake this behemoth in the slightest. Thus, the remaining high-ranking officials of the Great Federation could not afford to hesitate; they decided on an efficient course of action to secretly apprehend all significant members.
Only by doing so could they fulfill the directive from Alien Life and obtain the coveted Longevity Drug. The plan was indeed secretive. Typically, any attempt to target such a Military-Industrial Complex would inevitably lead to leaks due to the intricate web of interests involved, making confidentiality nearly impossible.
However, this time Alien Life specifically aimed to target the Arms Division. The high-ranking officials of the Great Federation united against all Arms Tycoons. Additionally, within the Arms Division, an elderly figure nearing his end played a role in this collaboration, allowing them to keep it under wraps.
Unfortunately, within the upper ranks, a small number of insightful individuals opposed this plan. This minority faction could be termed the Hawk Faction. Unlike the Dove Faction that sought compromise, the Hawk Faction firmly believed that Alien Life posed an absolute threat to human society; they saw no possibility for coexistence—only a fight to the death.
The Hawk Faction also believed that Alien Life's targeting of the Arms Division stemmed from fear of humanity's firepower. For them, even if the Extinguish Fire operation succeeded, it would mean self-inflicted wounds for the Great Federation—essentially dismantling its military capabilities—which was entirely unacceptable.
As a result, this small group of high-ranking officials leaked information that led to the failure of the secret arrests. The situation spiraled out of control. Within the Great Federation, what was once a murky blend had transformed into stark divisions; black and white were clearly defined, with each side wishing for the other's demise.
After their initial attempt at secret apprehension failed, the Black Side retaliated swiftly. With millions under their command and knowledge of their positions and salaries, they prepared for conflict.
The Black Side received the order, and its members began to stir up independence within the Great Federation.
Anthony silently ended the communication and looked at his two capable subordinates, sharing the shocking news. The revelation stunned William, Mers, and even the viewers who were following the drama closely.
"What is the Great Federation playing at? Are they really willing to incite internal conflict for the sake of the Alien Life mission?"
"I didn't initiate this; I just assigned a task, and the Great Federation has stabbed itself twice," Alien Life remarked.
Initially, William thought that the title of the show, "Black and White," referred to the Serpent and the Investigation Bureau. Little did he know that the production team had a much larger vision in mind, pointing instead to the Black Military-Industrial Complex of the Great Federation and others.
William struggled to understand the higher-ups' mindset: Why? Alien Life was lurking within our society. Instead of focusing on how to investigate or deal with Alien Life, they were turning against each other?
Since entering Anthony's office today, William felt as if his emotions had been on a roller coaster, rising and falling unpredictably.
Mers pondered once again whether it was time to truly run away. This Great Federation was no longer a place for them; perhaps going to another country would be better.
