After the emergency contact with the Special Investigation Team, a Head Nurse accompanied the Bomb Disposal Team outside. The Bomb Disposal Team Leader took a deep breath, his expression grave, as one of his team members assisted him in putting on the bomb suit while the others kept bystanders at bay. They were uncertain whether this bomb disposal would be successful.
The Head Nurse appeared somewhat panicked but managed to maintain her composure. "Um, um, the room is still empty, so... please take care of it."
The Bomb Disposal Team Leader nodded silently; he was not in the mood for conversation. Once fully equipped, he picked up the toolbox and stepped inside. After a team member handed him an explosive detection device, he slowly closed the door behind him.
Just as the team leader had said, on the left side of the room's table lay a particularly beautiful Gift Box. Keeping a safe distance, he activated the detector and waited. To his surprise, there was no reaction from the device.
What was going on? Was there really no explosive inside? Did they have any idea how terrified they had been before coming to the hospital? Did they understand how heavy their hearts felt when they had to remove their bomb suits to search for potential explosives?
Yet now, the device indicated there were no explosives? The Bomb Disposal Team Leader felt a wave of disbelief wash over him. He leaned closer to the table and removed his heavy helmet. Pressing his ear against the Gift Box, he listened intently but heard nothing.
Setting the helmet aside, he pulled out a small, powerful flashlight and donned a pair of magnifying goggles. Leaning down until his head was level with the table, he shone the bright light onto the surface of the box, carefully inspecting it for any signs of wires or triggers but found none.
Turning off the light and removing his goggles, he waved his hand gently over the top of the Gift Box and leaned in to sniff it but detected no unusual odors.
His mood darkened further; after spending five long minutes alternating between attempts to open it and pausing to reassess, he finally untied the bow on top of the box. Steadying himself, he lifted the lid with minimal effort when suddenly a monstrous head sprang out, knocking off the lid in an instant.
Staring at the wobbling spring that supported this monstrous head, the Bomb Disposal Team Leader felt no relief—only a sense of irony washed over him.
It was as if a line of transparent crows flew slowly over his forehead, cawing strangely.
"Emotions aren't bombs! I was looking forward to this!"
"After all that suspense, is this it? What an anticlimax!"
The Bomb Disposal Team Leader slapped his forehead heavily, taking a moment to calm down before reaching for his earpiece. "Report! The gift box has been located; it's a prank box with no explosives!"
What the hell? Both Zhang Yutao and the Bomb Disposal Team Leader reacted in shock first, then felt a wave of sarcasm wash over them, and finally, their anger boiled over.
Xu Lie was still messing with them?
Zhang Yutao was so furious he wanted to punch something, but with precious Monitoring Team computers all around him, he decided to hold back.
Taking a step back would lead to broader horizons; he needed to endure for Shi Feng's sake.
But the more he held it in, the angrier he became. Zhang Yutao grabbed the communicator and switched to the team frequency, shouting, "Fall back!"
Upon receiving the order, three members of the Plainclothes Team surrounded Xu Lie and escorted him out through the front door of the clinic.
When they reached the parking lot, one member of the Plainclothes Team took a seat in the back row first, followed by Xu Lie in the middle, and another member settled in on Xu Lie's left side.
As a precaution, they even put handcuffs on Xu Lie.
