The Bandit Leader felt a flash of light before his eyes, and before he could react, a chilling sword wind swept past, slicing a gash across his cheek. In an instant, the blood appeared, and the sting felt like fire burning him, causing him to let out a pained cry that echoed through the valley.
Seeing their leader injured, the surrounding bandits turned red with rage and charged at Lin Feng with ferocity. However, Lin Feng remained calm and composed, his steps light and agile as he moved like a dragon weaving through the clouds, effortlessly navigating among the crowd.
In his hand, the long sword seemed to possess its own intelligence. At times it struck with the precision of a venomous snake, ruthlessly targeting the enemies' vital points; at other times, it coiled around like a constricting serpent, sending bandits flying away as they approached.
In no time, cries of pain filled the air as more than half of the attackers fell to the ground. The Bandit Leader was both shocked and frightened; he realized he had encountered a formidable opponent. He quickly called for his remaining loyal followers to protect him as they attempted to retreat toward the storeroom, hoping to take food as hostages.
But Lin Feng would not allow that. With a light push of his toes against the ground, he leaped into the air gracefully, performing a somersault that allowed him to land firmly in front of the Bandit Leader, blocking his escape route.
"Want to run? Too late!" Lin Feng's voice was cold and piercing. With a flick of his wrist, countless sword shadows emerged, forming an impenetrable net that ensnared the Bandit Leader and his companions.
Though the Bandit Leader was known for his ruthlessness and brute strength, he gritted his teeth and swung his weapon with all his might in an attempt to break through the sword shadows. Yet each clash sent jolts through his hands, leaving his arms numb and weak.
In just a few exchanges, the Bandit Leader's weapon flew from his grasp with a loud clatter, and he collapsed to the ground, Lin Feng's sword tip pressed against his throat. Seeing this, the remaining loyal followers dropped their weapons and knelt in surrender.
At that moment, two other groups of soldiers successfully completed their tasks and arrived to join them. Upon seeing the wailing bandits scattered on the ground and the composed Fourth Prince standing nearby, everyone couldn't help but cheer in unison, their morale soaring.
"Load up the grain carts; we return immediately!" Lin Feng commanded decisively.
The soldiers sprang into action swiftly. One by one, grain carts were rolled out. Under the flickering torchlight, bulging grain sacks filled with hope were loaded up—carrying with them the promise of survival for those in the nearby county—as they slowly made their way down the mountain.
Having just resolved the bandit troubles and food shortages at Luofeng Mountain, Lin Feng did not take a moment's rest. He immediately turned his attention to Tai, He Nei, and Guang, the counties that had also been ravaged by the snow disaster.
He understood clearly that while one crisis had been averted, the people were still mired in suffering. Thus, he urged his companions to hasten their journey to Tai.
Upon entering the territory of Tai, the sight before Lin Feng filled him with deep concern. The vast expanse of white snow nearly buried the entire county. In the villages, most rooftops had collapsed under the weight of thick snow. The people huddled among the ruins, their faces pale and lips cracked from the cold.
The streets were eerily devoid of pedestrians; occasionally, he spotted a few children, emaciated and hollow-eyed, desperately searching through the snow for anything to eat.
Lin Feng made his way directly to the county office. Upon hearing that the Fourth Prince had arrived, the county magistrate hurried out to greet him, his eyes red-rimmed and voice choked with emotion. "Your Highness, you have finally come! This snow disaster struck suddenly and fiercely. Our food supplies are nearly exhausted, and we have no firewood left," he said, tears streaming down his face.
Lin Feng placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder and said steadily, "Do not panic. Since I am here, I will not abandon the people."
He continued, "We have some food from before that can last for a while. First, let’s take stock of what resources we have left and organize able-bodied men. We can venture into the mountains; perhaps we can find some dead wood for firewood."
Upon hearing this, everyone in the county office felt a surge of hope and quickly began to summon more hands to assist.
