Time flew by, and the Zheng Dan Festival arrived, marking the Spring Festival. On this day, the morning court session was merely a formality, quickly concluded as officials hurriedly attended and departed. From this day onward, there would be several days of holiday.
The royal family celebrated with even more fervor than the common folk. Every household engaged in festivities, as this day represented not only the end of the old year but also the hope for the new one.
After the court session, the royal children would enter the palace, and many senior officials received invitations from the emperor to join a banquet within the palace. Lin Feng was among them.
Upon returning home, Lin Feng felt a surge of joy as he observed the lively atmosphere in the mansion. After half a year, the Fourth Prince's Mansion was no longer as dull as it had been before.
As Lin Feng entered his room, he saw Xia Qingyu arranging several outfits to decorate the space. He said, "Wife, we will head to the palace shortly."
Xia Qingyu beamed with delight and replied, "Great, my husband!"
The two joined hands and prepared to leave for the palace. Just then, a light cough sounded from behind them. Lin Feng turned slightly to see Xia Yuanji approaching.
"Father-in-law!" Lin Feng greeted.
"Dear!" Xia Qingyu chimed in.
Xia Yuanji looked at the couple holding hands and felt a twinge of annoyance. "What are you two doing in broad daylight, pulling each other around like that?"
The couple exchanged amused glances, thinking how overly concerned this old man was. They then proceeded together into the palace.
Lin Feng led Xia Qingyu toward the inner palace, while Xia Yuanji was already in the grand hall for the banquet. As the Minister of Revenue, he was naturally invited to attend.
Inside the inner palace, although everything appeared to be decorated with a sense of age, there was no festive atmosphere. It was just like any other day. The gathering was merely for a meal and some casual conversation, but it lacked the relaxed vibe of the outside world.
Upon arriving at the Empress's palace, they found many people already present. The Wu Emperor, Lin Zhen, the Empress, various concubines, the Crown Prince, and several princes were all in attendance. The last to arrive was Lin Feng.
Once inside the palace, Lin Feng greeted Lin Zhen and the Empress respectfully, inquiring about the Crown Prince and his brothers.
Lin Zhen looked at Lin Feng and said, "Old Four, you are late!"
Lin Feng replied, "Your Majesty, I was delayed by some matters!"
At that moment, the Crown Prince and Lin Quan chimed in, "Fourth Prince, a penalty drink for you!"
Everyone laughed at this.
Lin Zhen then announced, "The ministers have all arrived; the ladies will remain in the inner palace. Crown Prince, take your brothers and come with me!"
After saying this, Lin Zhen added, "Empress, I leave the inner palace in your capable hands!"
Wei smiled and replied, "This humble servant obeys; Your Majesty can rest assured!"
With that, Lin Zhen and a few others departed for the grand hall while Xia Qingyu stayed behind in the inner palace.
Lu Wanying looked at her daughter-in-law and pulled Xia Qingyu closer. It had been some time since they last met, and Xia Qingyu had become even more beautiful.
Gently holding Xia Qingyu's hand, Lu Wanying asked, "Xia Qingyu, how have you and Feng Er been these past few days?"
Xia Qingyu said, "My husband treats me very well! Mother."
Lu Wanying smiled gently and replied, "If Ruo Feng Er dares to bully you, just let me know!"
Xia Qingyu added, "My husband is gentle and considerate; I feel very at ease with him."
Lu Wanying leaned closer to Xia Qingyu and asked, "Have you seen a doctor these days?"
Xia Qingyu looked puzzled and thought to herself, "What do I need to see a doctor for?"
