As they approached the gates of Xia Manor, the guards stationed at the entrance spotted them from a distance. Their faces immediately lit up with respect as they hurried forward to open the gates, calling out in unison, "Fourth Prince, Miss has arrived! Please come in!"
Hearing the call, Lin Feng and Xia Qingyu exchanged smiles before walking hand in hand into the manor.
Lin Feng stepped inside and saw Xia Ji and Madam Xia seated at the front hall, their expressions warm and welcoming. He approached steadily, respectfully bowing and greeting, "Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, may you be well."
After paying his respects, Lin Feng personally presented a cup of freshly brewed tea, its fragrant aroma wafting through the air. At the same time, Xia Qingyu gracefully stepped forward to greet her mother.
Xia Ji and Madam Xia's gazes fell upon the newlywed couple before them, their eyes filled with satisfaction as they nodded approvingly.
After a brief moment, Xia Qingyu obediently followed Madam Xia out of the hall toward the inner courtyard. At this moment, only Xia Ji and Lin Feng remained standing face to face.
Xia Ji fixed his gaze on Lin Feng and spoke earnestly, "Lin Feng, now that my daughter is married to you, I entrust her completely to you. I hope you will treat her sincerely and never let her suffer even a bit of hardship."
Upon hearing this, Lin Feng quickly nodded in agreement, giving Xia Ji a reassuring expression as he firmly replied, "Rest assured, Father-in-law. I will do everything in my power to cherish Xia Qingyu and ensure she is never harmed in any way."
Xia Ji nodded slightly, a hint of appreciation showing on his face. He continued, "I have also heard that shortly after arriving at Xingbu, you solved a major case. Truly impressive for someone so young!"
Lin Feng smiled humbly and replied, "Thank you for your praise, Father-in-law. It was merely my duty."
Xia Ji laughed heartily and waved his hand dismissively. "No need to be so modest; it is rare for young people to possess such talent. Now let’s set aside these matters for today; please stay here for dinner."
Lin Feng readily agreed, saying, "Then I shall trouble you, Father-in-law."
Xia Ji furrowed his brow slightly and said seriously to Lin Feng, "In the future when you visit again, there’s no need to bring so many gifts; it’s better to save some for yourself!"
Lin Feng quickly responded, "Understood."
Before long, a servant hurried in to report, "Sir, the meals are ready; please proceed to dine."
Xia Ji turned to Lin Feng with a smile and said, "Then let us go together."
With that, the two walked side by side toward the dining room.
Upon entering the dining room, they found the spacious table already laden with an array of exquisite dishes. On ordinary days, Xia Ji would never indulge in such extravagance; however, today was indeed a joyous occasion for his beloved daughter, and it was essential to prepare well for it.
The meal was particularly enjoyable; compared to the formalities of court life, this setting felt much more relaxed and comfortable.
The group gathered around the table, chatting and laughing, completely at ease. During the meal, Madam Xia occasionally offered Lin Feng earnest reminders, to which Lin Feng responded with a beaming smile, agreeing to each one.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, Lin Feng stood up to bid farewell to the Xia Family. He then took Xia Qingyu by his side and left Xia Manor, heading back home.
