Lin Feng rose from his seat and gently blew out the flickering candle. As the flame extinguished, the room was plunged into darkness. However, this darkness did not bring any fear or unease; instead, it added a touch of warmth and intimacy.
Returning to the bedside, Lin Feng lay down quietly and tentatively reached out his hand, accurately grasping Xia Qingyu's small hand. He felt her palm was slightly damp, clearly a sign of her nervousness. He could distinctly sense her heartbeat quickening, like a startled deer thrashing within her chest.
Gradually, perhaps due to the comfort conveyed by Lin Feng's warm hand, Xia Qingyu's tense body began to relax. She instinctively shifted closer to Lin Feng, ultimately nestling into his broad and solid embrace. In this way, cradled in Lin Feng's strong arms, Xia Qingyu gradually drifted off to sleep.
Lin Feng silently gazed at his beautiful wife in his arms, her features appearing particularly enchanting under the faint moonlight. Her closed eyes resembled crescent moons, and her long eyelashes fluttered slightly, as if she were still lost in a myriad of thoughts even in her dreams. Seeing such a lovely sight brought a satisfied smile to Lin Feng's lips.
He then slowly closed his own eyes, savoring the tranquility and sweetness unique to this wedding night.
The next morning, just as dawn broke and the eastern sky turned pale, Lin Feng and Xia Qingyu were already awake. They knew they had important matters to attend to at the palace. The two quickly washed up and carefully selected suitable attire.
Lin Feng donned a magnificent brocade robe adorned with exquisite cloud patterns, cinched at the waist with a jade belt that accentuated his tall figure. Xia Qingyu wore a light pink long dress that flowed gracefully around her like a fairy descending from the heavens.
Once they were ready, they set off together for the royal palace. Since Lin Feng was about to be married, the emperor had granted him a few days off; thus, he would not need to attend court for several days.
Upon arriving at the palace, they found that the morning court session had not yet concluded. Lin Feng's father, Emperor Lin Zhen, was still handling state affairs in the court. Therefore, Lin Feng and Xia Qingyu decided to visit Empress Wei first.
Before long, they arrived at the palace where the Empress resided.
The palace was grand and magnificent, with intricately carved beams and beautifully painted rafters.
As they stepped through the palace gates and crossed the courtyard, Lin Feng saw Empress Wei seated in the main hall, accompanied by his mother, Lu Wanying. Hand in hand with Xia Qingyu, Lin Feng slowly entered the hall.
Upon seeing Empress Wei and Lu Wanying, Lin Feng quickly pulled Xia Qingyu forward a step, bowing deeply as he said, " Your son pays respects to the Empress and Mother Consort!"
Xia Qingyu followed closely behind, slightly curtsying and sweetly saying, "Qie Shen pays respects to the Empress and Mother Consort!"
Empress Wei and Lu Wanying's faces immediately lit up with joy at the sight. Empress Wei beamed with a smile, waving her hands to indicate, "Please rise quickly; we are all family here, no need for such formalities."
As she spoke, she kindly beckoned the two to come closer.
Hearing this, Xia Qingyu obediently nodded and gracefully stepped forward. At that moment, a serving maid approached with a cup of fragrant tea, carefully presenting it to Xia Qingyu.
Xia Qingyu steadied herself as she accepted the teacup, then knelt again in respect. Holding the cup with both hands, she reverently offered it to Empress Wei, softly saying, "The daughter-in-law presents tea to the Empress; please enjoy it, Your Majesty."
