"No way."
The person's eyes lit up as they looked at Sera and Lilu Lu, but they were interrupted by them.
Seeing the determined expressions on Sera and Lilu Lu, Seven People sighed.
"Alright, let's rest at the edge for a bit before coming back."
"Yeah, let's go hunt some other ghosts."
"Sure."
Sera and Lilu Lu didn't hesitate to agree.
Seven People watched their figures with a hint of longing. It was impressive to have such strong individuals participating in the trial, and they had already taken down so many ghosts.
Supporting each other, Seven People made their way to the edge. There were wisteria flowers there, and generally, no ghosts approached. However, participants couldn’t get too close either; otherwise, it would be considered giving up on the trial.
As Sera and Lilu Lu ran, they tossed a few Celestial Eyes into the sky. The range of the Celestial Eyes was linked to their Spiritual Power, which was already quite decent for both of them.
Unfortunately, they hadn’t undergone a qualitative change yet, so they couldn’t use their Spiritual Power for attacks or scouting.
The Celestial Eyes dispersed and flew off in various directions.
Looking around, they noticed some people engaged in one-on-one battles with ghosts. Sera and Lilu Lu paid them no mind and instead observed the groups of people nearby; they would attract more ghosts.
Although the ghosts hadn’t fed on humans for a long time and had regained some rationality, they wouldn’t easily approach large groups of people, as it would invite other ghosts to join in.
Of course, outside this area, every ghost had its own hunting ground. If other ghosts approached or entered that territory, the resident ghost would drive them away.
Currently, Tengxi Mountain Ghosts didn’t have any designated hunting grounds; it was just a bunch of ghosts gathered together. Even if they didn’t like each other, there was nothing they could do about it.
If they ended up fighting among themselves and killed each other off, during next year’s trial there would be fewer ghosts left. If humans became stronger then, they might all end up dead; having more ghosts around certainly provided an advantage.
A few ghosts that had clearly just fed on humans were eyeing the group of humans gathered together. A couple of them wearing Hakama caught their attention.
Those wearing Hakama usually had some strength. We ghosts still lacked a bit; didn’t that group already have some success? Why weren’t any more ghosts coming?
"I don’t know. A few of them ate something and heard there were more people here, so they came over first."
"Should we call Shougui Daren?"
"Forget it. If Shougui Daren comes, we might not get to eat at all!"
A few of them had just eaten human flesh, clearly stronger than the others. The remaining ghosts, who had not fed, looked at these stronger ones, listening to their commands.
They glanced at the ten humans and then at their own eight ghosts. Although the ghosts had an advantage over the humans and were all skilled, it seemed they lacked experience. However, when they noticed the three wearing Hakama, the lead ghost still hesitated to launch an attack.
"Go, call a few more ghosts. We need to surround them to ensure there are no issues," he instructed.
One ghost called out, and a response came from the north. The other areas seemed deserted; not a single ghost answered back.
The few ghosts didn’t dwell on it for long. They looked at the humans, noticing that some had already begun to sleep. It was already past midnight; wanting to sleep was normal at this hour.
However, the advantage of having many people was that they could take turns keeping watch. The three wearing Hakama divided their shifts, taking turns while the other five split into pairs to keep watch alongside them.
Night was the ghosts' domain; they didn’t need sleep. With so many of them present, the scent in the air was stronger, not to mention the flickering firelight in the night would surely attract attention.
After waiting for what felt like ages, five more ghosts finally arrived. They observed the human who had just taken over from the previous watch; his mouth twisted in a way that no human could naturally achieve.
Finally, reinforcements had arrived!
