Tanjirou looked at Li Yunqing with confusion. "You let that demon go? It has already consumed an entire city!"
Seeing Tanjirou's bewildered expression, Li Yunqing shook his head. "There are many restrictions. That demon can only be killed by someone from the Demon Slayer Corps. I cannot do it."
"Why can't you?" Tanjirou asked, his voice rising with agitation. "If you killed it, wouldn't the people of that city be saved?"
Tanjirou trembled at the thought of all those innocent lives lost to a demon. Li Yunqing observed Tanjirou's distress and understood that he was mourning for the victims.
Without elaborating further, Li Yunqing replied, "You are too weak. When you grow strong enough to satisfy me, I will answer your questions."
Li Yunqing turned his attention back to his book, ignoring Tanjirou. Tanjirou opened his mouth, unsure of what to say next.
Nezuko, noticing her brother's frustration, offered him some comfort. "It's okay, big brother. Remember why we are here. We need to learn how to kill demons so we can avenge them."
Tanjirou took a deep breath and calmed down as he looked at his sister. Then he turned back to Li Yunqing. "Big brother! What is that demon's name?"
Li Yunqing considered for a moment before deciding to share the information. After all, Tanjirou's growth depended on his resentment towards Muzan.
"The demon king, the first demon in history—every demon was created by him: Kibutsuji Muzan."
"Kibutsuji Muzan?" Tanjirou repeated, committing the name to memory when suddenly he heard a strong voice nearby.
He turned to see a figure wearing an Oni Gitsune mask had appeared beside them without him noticing.
Due to the presence of Li Yunqing and the others, their living area had been developed into a large flat space that could be seen from the mountain above.
Taki Sakonji noticed two new figures in the clearing and realized that Tanjirou and his companions had awakened. He decided to let Sera and Lilu Lu practice on their own while he went to find Tanjirou and the others.
Not long after arriving, Li Yunqing overheard a conversation between Tanjirou and Taki Sakonji, especially the mention of the name of the Demon King, Kibutsuji Muzan, which made him quicken his pace.
Li Yunqing noticed Taki Sakonji staring at him, feeling a bit of a headache.
"Are you talking about the Demon King?"
"Yes, that's him."
"Just hearing about him is enough; I’m very strong."
Taki Sakonji looked at Li Yunqing, wanting to say something but recalling what Li Yunqing had said earlier, he held back.
He turned to Tanjirou.
"You must be the one that Tengen Uzui was talking about, right? You have a keen sense of smell?"
"It's alright; I can smell a lot of things."
Taki Sakonji nodded and glanced at Nezuko.
"This is your sister? Does she want to become a Demon Swordsman?"
"She doesn’t."
"I want to become a Demon Swordsman!"
Tanjirou was about to say that Nezuko wouldn't engage in fighting when he was interrupted by her words, looking at her in disbelief.
"Nezuko?"
Nezuko looked at Tanjirou with determination.
"Brother likes to show off; even if he can't win, he will still face challenges head-on. If I want to take care of him, I can only fight alongside him!"
Tanjirou gazed at Nezuko with admiration and then smiled gently.
"Since it's Nezuko's choice, let's do our best together!"
"Mm-hmm!"
Taki Sakonji watched Tanjirou and Nezuko so spirited and nodded in approval.
"You can't just talk the talk. If you want to become my disciple, you need to pass the test! If you can't pass, even if you were recommended by Tengen Uzui, you'll have to go back home!"
Hearing Taki Sakonji's words, Tanjirou and Nezuko exchanged determined glances and nodded firmly at him.
"We will definitely pass the test!"
It sounded good in words, but they had to keep up! With that, Taki Sakonji took off running up the mountain. Tanjirou and Nezuko were a bit slow to react but quickly followed after him.
In the once lively clearing, only Li Yunqing remained.
Li Yunqing looked at the energetic Tanjirou and Nezuko and sighed, "How nice it is to be young!"
